Chapter 170
Iris’s POV
:
I had just finished watering the new plants I’d bought for the apartment when my phone started ringing. The peaceful evening silence shattered instantly. I wiped my hands on a small towel and reached for my phone, noticing Rachel’s name flashing on the screen.
“Hello?” I answered, tucking the phone between my ear and shoulder as I adjusted one of the flower pots.
“Iris, you need to check social media right now!” Rachel’s voice was pitched higher than normal, laced with urgency. “Catherine’s gone
completely insane!”
I felt a strange calmness wash over me. Of course Catherine would try something new. That’s what she always did when she felt cornered.
“What happened?” I asked, keeping my voice steady. “Take a breath and tell me.”
“She’s posted this whole dramatic video attacking you online! She’s saying you’re ungrateful and–God, Iris, it’s bad. She’s telling everyone

The title made me roll my eyes: [I’m posting this message out of desperation. The Stone family has been driven to the brink, and I must reveal Iris Stone’s true nature–the daughter I raised for over twenty years, who has betrayed her
family…]

“Found it,” I told Rachel, my finger hovering over the play button. “Give me a minute.”
I pressed play and watched as Catherine’s face filled my screen. She looked deliberately disheveled, her normally perfect makeup slightly smudged around the eyes to suggest she’d been crying. Her hair was styled to look as though she hadn’t had time to fix it properly. I almost laughed at the theatrics–I’d seen her prepare this exact “distressed” look for fundraising events when she wanted to appear
