Chapter 174
Catherine’s POV
3010
I stumbled backward as the security guards roughly escorted me through the glass doors of Crescent Design. The humiliation burned through me like acid. Just moments ago, that man–Sebastien Grey–had arrived in the lobby like some dark avenging angel, taken one look at the scene my daughter had caused, and coldly ordered his men to remove us.
“Get them out,” he had said, not even bothering to raise his voice. “This company isn’t a venue for family drama.
Now I stood on the sidewalk outside, the sting of Iris’s slap still burning on my cheek, but the sting of public embarrassment burning far deeper. The security guards remained at the entrance, watching us with warning in their eyes. My daughter–that ungrateful, cold–hearted girl- had disappeared inside, and that bastard Sebastien had made sure we couldn’t follow.
But I wasn’t done yet. Not by a long shot.
I smoothed down my blouse with trembling hands, trying to summon what little dignity I had left. Through the glass doors, I could see Sebastien speaking with the receptionist, probably ensuring we wouldn’t be allowed back in.
“He’s her husband,” I muttered to Kim who stood beside me, dabbing at her reddened cheek with a tissue. “He was her mate once. Maybe he
could talk some sense into her.”
I watched Sebastien, calculating my next move. He would have to leave the building eventually. I could catch him then, away from the watchful eyes of his security team. He was still technically Iris’s alpha. If anyone could make that stubborn girl listen to reason, it would be him.
“Wait here,” I told Kim, and straightened my shoulders as I saw Sebastien heading toward the doors. I took a deep breath and pushed through them before my courage failed me, timing it perfectly so that we would meet in the entrance.
The security guard at the desk gave me a warning look, but I ignored him. My heart pounded against my ribs as I approached Sebastien. God, he was intimidating–tall, broad–shouldered, and radiating that alpha power that made lesser wolves like me want to bare their throats. But I wasn’t about to back down. Not when my family’s future was at stake.
“Alpha Grey, I mean, Mr. Grey,” I called out, my voice deliberately tremulous. “Please, I need to speak with you about Iris.”
Sebastien didn’t even slow his stride. He walked past me like I was nothing but air, his eyes fixed ahead. The dismissal sent a wave of hot anger through me, but I swallowed it down, scurrying to keep up with his long strides.
“Please, I tried again, forcing tears into my eyes. “She’s your mate… I mean, your wife. You need to talk to her. She’s turned her back un ber family. After everything I’ve done for her…”
God, this was humiliating. I, Catherine Stone, reduced to begging for attention from 3 man who wouldn’t even look at me. But I needing his help With his influence, Iris might be forced to share some of that prize money she’d won Out Tamaly needed it–t needed it. The Stone estate was crumbling, and I’d already borrowed so much that the creditors were ticking.
Sebastien stopped so abruptly I nearly ran into him. When he turned, hises were cold and hurd, looking down at me with sun canhops for I alust tuck a tiep back. Almost.
“You’re still here,” he said, his voice flat Not even a quat, just 20ation dripping with didala

mistakes, turning against her own blood. Surely you must see that.”

His mouth curled into a smile that never reached his eyes. “The only mistake Iris ever made was tolerating you for as long as she did.”
The words hit like a physical blow. I felt my face flush hot with anger, but forced my expression to remain pleading. “You don’t understand. She’s not thinking clearly. You’re her husband–you could talk to her, make her see reason. She was always so stubborn, but she’d listen to you.”
God, the lies tasted sour on my tongue. Iris had never listened to anyone, least of all this cold man before me. But I needed him to believe I
was just a concerned mother, not a woman desperate for money.
Sebastien’s gaze flickered over my shoulder to where Kim waited outside, then back to me. Something dangerous flashed in his eyes.
“Security,” he called suddenly, his voice carrying across the lobby without him raising it. Two men in suits appeared almost instantly. Sebastien didn’t even look at them as he spoke. “Get them out of the building. What kind of trash are we allowing to loiter in the company? This isn’t a
