Chapter 175
Catherine’s POV
“Mrs. Stone,” one guard said quietly, glancing around to make sure no humans were listening too closely. “I suggest you leave quietly before we’re forced to call the werewolf council.”
I froze, my blood running cold. The council? No, that couldn’t happen. Our family had lost its seat years ago, and with it, any protection from the more powerful packs. If the Grey family brought charges against us…
“Fine,” I snapped, yanking my arm free. “We’re leaving. Come on, Kim.”
I stormed down the street, my mind racing. That bastard Sebastien Grey. Who did he think he was? And Iris–my ungrateful, traitorous daughter–sitting pretty in her fancy job while her family struggled. The unfairness of it all made my chest tight with rage.
“Mom, slow down,” Kim whined, struggling to keep up in her high heels. “Where are we going?”
I didn’t answer immediately, scanning the street until I spotted a slender young man leaning against a lamppost, pretending to check his phone. Thomas–at least something was going according to plan.
I hurried over to him, my heart pounding with anticipation. “Did you get it? Tell me you got it all on video.”
Thomas looked up, his eyes bright with excitement. “Everything, Mrs. Stone. From the moment Iris hit you until the security guards dragged you out. It’s perfect.”
Relief washed over me as he handed me his phone. I swiped through the video footage, my lips curling into a satisfied smile. There it was- Iris’s hand connecting with my face, the shocked gasps from onlookers, the security guards manhandling me. It was better than I could have hoped for.
“You’ve done well, Thomas,” I said, patting his arm. I paused, noticing a new bruise forming on my upper arm where the guard had gripped me. Perfect. More evidence of mistreatment.
“Let’s find somewhere to sit,” I said, scanning the street until I spotted a small coffee shop. “We need to prepare this properly before we post
it.”
Once we were settled in the coffee shop, I reviewed the footage on Thomas’s phone, I couldn’t help but smile with satisfaction. “This is so much better than that pathetic crying video we posted the other day,” I told Kim, swiping through the clips. “That first one barely made a ripple. Iris didn’t even bother to respond.”
“Do you think this one will actually hurt her?” Kim asked, leaning over to watch the footage of her sister slapping me.
“Oh, absolutely. The first video was just me talking, easy for her to ignore But this?” I pointed to the clear image of Iris’s hand connecting with my face. “Physical violence caught on camera? This will destroy her. Even her precious new wolf friends won’t be able to protect her fram human public opinion.”
The coffee shop was nearly empty, perfect for our needs. I ordered the cheapest water on the menu why waste money when we’d have plenty soon enough? Once Itis saw what I was about to do, she’d have no choice but to pay up to make the scandal go away.
“Kim, start editing that video, 1 instructed as we sat down. “Make it better than the last one. Cut out the part at the end with Sebastien. We don’t want to antagonize the Greys directly—just Iris.”
