Chapter 205

Iris’s POV

I rushed away from the stranger, my phone still buzzing insistently in my hand. The wet spot on my white dress was already turning pink where the red wine had soaked through, but I couldn’t care less about that now. Whatever Mrs. Evans needed to tell me with such urgency

had to be important.

Finding a quieter corner near the exit, I finally answered the call. Mrs. Evans? What’s wrong?

Miss Stone! The normally composed voice of our family estate’s longtime manager was shrill with panic. Thank goodness you answered!

I’ve been trying to reach you-

What happened? My grip tightened around the phone.

The Stone family estateit’s on fire! Her words hit me like a physical blow. The security system alerted me. I’m watching the surveillance feed right now, and the flames are spreading so quickly through the east wing!

My stomach dropped. Mrs. Evans had managed our family property for over twenty years, staying loyal even after father’s death when things changed. If she was this alarmed, the situation must be truly dire. Is anyone there? Have you called the fire department?

Yes, they’re on their way, but Miss StoneHer voice broke. The fire seems to have started near your father’s study. All those documents, his collections

I’m on my way,I said firmly. Keep me updated if anything changes.

Ending the call, I hurried toward the exit, barely registering the curious glances thrown my way. My father’s belongings, his legacyI couldn’t let them burn. Some things were irreplaceable, like the antique wolf figurines carved by my greatgrandfather and the hand- drawn designs my father had created before digital tools existed.

The cool night air hit my face as I pushed through the doors, heading straight for the parking area. My mind raced with calculations- twenty minutes to the estate if traffic was light, maybe fifteen if I pushed it.

Miss! Wait!

I turned to see the man I’d collided with earlier jogging after me, something draped over his arm. He was tall, with dark hair and warm brown eyes that seemed genuinely concerned. He wasn’t from our werewolf communityI would have remembered him.

You left in such a hurry,he said, slightly out of breath. I thought you might need this.He held out what appeared to be a suit jacket. It’s getting cold, and your dress is

He gestured awkwardly at the wine stain on my chest. His consideration caught me off guard,

I’m Lucas Morgan,he continued with a slight smile. Sorry again about your dress.*

*Thank you, but I really need to go,I said, already backing away. There’s an emergency I need to handle.

Is there anything I can help with?He stepped closer, his expression sincere. You seem upset.

Before I could respond, a strong hand clamped around my upper arm, pulling me backward with enough force that I had to steady myself against a solid chest. The familiar scent hit me instantlypine, sandalwood, and that distinctive note that was uniquely Sebastien. My

wolf immediately perked up, alert and agitated.

She doesn’t need your help,Sebastien’s cold voice cut through the night air. His grip on my arm was uncomfortably tight.

As he retreated back toward the building, I rounded on Sebastien. What the hell do you think you’re doing?I hissed.

Me?His eyes flashed with irritation. What are you doing accepting clothing from strange men in parking lots? Enjoying the attention,

are you?

His accusation stung, igniting my temper. Oh, forI don’t have time for this, Sebastien! And for your information, I don’t need your permission to speak with whoever I want. We’re divorced, remember? Your choice!

I turned to leave, but he caught my wrist again. You reek of him,he growled, leaning closer. Did you enjoy having his scent on you? Is that why you let him follow you out here?

Let him?I yanked my arm away again, harder this time. You’re being ridiculous. And possessive. And completely inappropriate-*

Inappropriate? He stepped closer, towering over me. You’re standing here soaked in another man’s smell, in another man’s wine-*

Because he bumped into me!I shoved at his chest, needing space. God, Sebastien, listen to yourself! We’re not together anymore. You made that very clear when you didn’t show up to our vow renewal. So stop acting like a jealous mate when you’re the one who walked
