Chapter 211
Iris’s POV
My consciousness flickered back slowly, the world a spinning blur around me. Strong arms cradled my body – Sebastien’s arms. He was carrying me through the smoke–filled hallway, the metal box tucked securely under his other arm as he navigated away from my father’s
study.
“She’s coming to,” I heard him mutter, his voice vibrating through his chest against my ear.
I tried to speak, but only managed a weak cough, my lungs still burning from the smoke. My head pounded mercilessly, each heartbeat sending waves of pain through my skull.
“Just stay still,” Sebastien commanded, his pace steady despite carrying both me and the heavy metal safe.
“I can… walk,” I whispered, my voice raspy and barely audible. I couldn’t bear being so helpless, especially in his arms.
Sebastien ignored my protest and continued moving, but I could feel his muscles straining. Despite my dizziness, I pushed against his
chest.
“Put me down,” I insisted with as much strength as I could muster. “You can’t… carry both.”
After a moment’s hesitation, Sebastien carefully set me on my feet, keeping one arm around my waist to steady me. The world tilted dangerously, and I braced myself against the wall, focusing on controlling my breathing.
“Just… hold it together,” I whispered to myself. “Can’t collapse here…”
I sensed Sebastien’s gaze before I saw him. His face was tight with something that looked almost like concern as he adjusted his grip on the box, though his expression quickly darkened.
“You look like shit,” he said, pulling a handkerchief from his pocket and dampening it with a water bottle from his jacket.
The cool cloth against my face was startling but welcome. I inhaled deeply, catching Sebastien’s scent on the fabric – pine, amber, and something distinctly Alpha that made my wolf stir despite my exhaustion. My vision cleared slightly, the room’s edges sharpening.
“Move,” Sebastien ordered, his voice rough. “Stop standing here waiting to die.”
I tried to pull away from his steadying hand, uncomfortable with the proximity, but he tightened his grip instead of releasing me.
I was about to snap at him when something unusual hit my senses. A scent that didn’t belong – gunmetal, silver, and human sweat, cutting through the smoke and ash. My wolf immediately went on alert.
Slowly, I scanned our surroundings, trying not to give away that I’d noticed something. There, in the shadowed corner of the upper

Hunter.

The realization sent ice through my veins. Hunters were human extremists who knew about werewolves and sought to eliminate us. And
this one had a gun aimed directly at us.
I locked eyes with the masked figure just as I heard the unmistakable sound of a bullet sliding into the chamber. Silver bullets. My
muscles tensed, ready to move.
I was about to dive for cover when Sebastien yanked me sideways with unexpected force. His body shifted to shield mine as the shot rang out, the bullet embedding itself in the wall behind us.
“Fuck!” I gasped, my heart hammering against my ribs.
Sebastien and I both looked up at the hunter, who seemed momentarily startled – probably by Sebastien’s speed. The black–clad figure
again, clearly deliberating which of us to target first. adjusted their stance, eyes narrowing as they raised the gun
I couldn’t let Sebastien take another bullet for me. Despite our
complicated past, I didn’t want his blood on my hands.
