Chapter 212
The hunter fired again, the silver bullet splintering the wooden banister near my head. I ducked lower, the acrid smell of silver burning my nostrils. Each bullet that hit the walls released a chemical scent that made my wolf whimper.
I stumbled as part of the ceiling came down in front of me, blocking my path. “This old house is more unstable than I thought,” I panted, changing direction.
My movements were becoming sluggish, my vision blurring around the edges again. The smoke inhalation combined with my pregnancy was taking a serious toll. I couldn’t keep this up much longer.
“Just… keep… moving,” I wheezed, one hand pressed against the wall for support.
My legs finally buckled, and I slumped against the wall, sliding down to my knees. Just as my eyes began to close, strong arms wrapped around me, pulling me against a solid chest. The air filled with protective Alpha pheromones that made my wolf want to curl up and
yield.
I forced my heavy eyelids open, looking up into Sebastien’s dark eyes. What I saw there shocked me witnessed in his always–controlled expression.

raw panic, something I’d never
Through the dancing flames, I saw the hunter approaching, gun raised and aimed directly at us. Sebastien’s grip tightened around me, but I knew even his reflexes couldn’t outpace a bullet at this range, especially while carrying me.
The hunter’s mouth curved into a smile beneath the mask as their finger moved to the trigger.
A loud crack from above made us all freeze. The massive chandelier that had hung in the hall for generations was swaying precariously, its mounting weakened by the fire. With a final groan of metal, it plummeted, crashing to the floor between us and the hunter in an explosion of crystal and sparks.
The hunter flinched, the gun discharging prematurely. The silver bullet struck the wall with a distinctive ping. I instinctively clutched Sebastien’s arm, my fingernails digging into his flesh, the sharp pain clearing my head slightly.
“Now,” I gasped. “This is our chance.”
Sebastien didn’t hesitate. With one fluid motion, he adjusted his grip and moved toward the exit, his pace remarkably fast despite carrying me. I tried to keep my feet moving, to lighten his burden, fighting against the blackness threatening to swallow my consciousness.
We were almost at the door when I heard the hunter’s gun click as they reloaded.
“Sebas-” I tried to warn him, but the shot rang out before I could finish.
Sebastien’s body jerked, a harsh grunt escaping his lips. The metallic scent of blood didn’t fall, pushing forward with renewed determination.

Chapter 212
The front door burst open just as we reached it, and I recognized Daniel Parker with several Grey family security wolves rusting lay alerted by the gunshots. Sebastien practically thrust me into Daniel’s arms as we crossed the threshold into the night air
They helped me to a waiting SUV, where I slumped against the cool metal exterior, gulping in fresh air. My head gradually cleared, the
spinning world slowly steadying.
Daniel and the security team disappeared back into the house, weapons drawn. Minutes that felt like hours passed before they returned,

“No sign of the hunter,” Daniel reported. “Found blood on the second–floor windowsill. They must have escaped that way.”
I nodded weakly. “They knew we were werewolves. This was a targeted attack.”
My strength was returning bit by bit. I glanced down at myself, grimacing at the state of my clothes – covered in soot and ash, barely recognizable from their original color.
“Where’s Sebastien?” I asked, suddenly realizing I didn’t see him among the security team.
Daniel’s expression shifted, and I followed his gaze to the other side of the vehicle.
