Jealousy Alpha’s Regret
Chapter 216
I shook my head quickly. “No, I’m fine. Just… need a moment.”
His gaze lingered on me, assessing. I could practically see the battle between his protective instinct and his respect for my privacy. “Perhaps someone sh accompany you? After what happened…”
‘I’ll be fine,” I assured him. “The hospital is secure.” I gestured vaguely toward the Grey family security members positioned discreetly around the waitin area. “I won’t be long.”
William hesitated, then nodded reluctantly. “Daniel,” he said without looking at him, “keep an eye on the corridor. Give Ms. Stone her privacy, but mainta safe distance.”
Daniel nodded, relief washing over his face at having clear instructions. “Yes, sir.”
I walked briskly to the women’s restroom, feeling William’s concerned gaze following me. Inside, I checked that all the stalls were empty before answering the still–vibrating phone.
“What did you find out?” I asked without preamble.
*Iris, the black–clothed man escaped,” Noah’s voice came through clearly. “There are signs of deliberate arson at the scene, but not much information was
left behind.”
I closed my eyes, processing this. “And the shooter?”
“Gone. The precision of the shots, the escape route–this wasn’t some amateur, Iris. This was someone with training.”
A chill ran down my spine. The hunter had been prepared, had known exactly what we were, had come equipped with silver bullets specifically designed to
kill werewolves.
“Send more people to the hospital,” I said quietly. “I don’t care if they have to wear civilian clothes, but I want more security here.”
“Already on it,” Noah replied. “How’s Grey doing?”
I hesitated. “Still in surgery. It’s been almost two hours.”
After ending the call, I gripped the edge of the sink, staring at my reflection. My face was pale as paper, dark shadows prominent under my eyes. I looked
like death warmed over.
The bathroom door swung open, and two women walked in, chatting quietly. They stopped abruptly when they saw me, their eyes widening slightly.
“Are you okay, honey?” one asked, a middle–aged woman with kind eyes. “You look awful pale. Do you need me to call someone.
Thank you, ma’am, but I’m fine,” I forced a polite smile. ”
“Just worried about family in surgery.
I splashed cold water on my face, trying to compose myself. I needed to get back to William, but I also needed to pull myself together. Buty estions could trigger partial shifts–glowing eyes, extended claws—things impossible to explain to humane
As I walked back, I thought about the hunter’s face, the cold determination in his eyes as he aimed directly at me. There was no doubt target, nor Sebastien. He’d just gotten in the way.

Chapter 216
The moment I returned to the waiting area, the light above the surgery room suddenly went dark. My heart lurched painfully in my chest, and I quickened
my pace.
William immediately stood up, his knuckles white around the head of his cane. I rushed to his side, both of us staring intently at the doors.
A doctor emerged, removing his surgical mask with tired hands. His face showed exhaustion, but also something else–a hesitation that made my stomach
drop.
“Doctor, how is my grandson?” William asked, his voice commanding despite the underlying fear.
I stood frozen, watching the doctor’s face for any sign, good or bad. My fingers twisted together so tightly they hurt, but I barely noticed.
“The situation is like this, sir,” the doctor said, his expression grave. “Your grandson is out of the immediate danger zone, but I must be honest–we cannot guarantee when he’ll regain consciousness. The bullet contained compounds specifically toxic to werewolves.”
“Can we see him?” The words tumbled from my lips before I could stop them, my voice sounding strange and distant to my own ears.
As the doctor nodded and explained that Sebastien was being moved to a private room, I felt a hollow sensation open up inside me. He was alive but still in danger. The poison could still claim him. And if it did…
If he dies because of me, how will I ever live with myself?
The question settled like ice in my stomach as we continued our silent vigil in the sterile hallway.
