Jealousy Alpha's Regret novel Chapter 228

Chapter 228

Iris’s POV

:

The drive back from the hospital was silent. Sebastien hadn’t tried to stop me, and I hadn’t offered any words of comfort. Now, finally

back in my own apartment at Blue Harbor, the tension of the past few days crashed down on me. The door clicked shut behind me, and I

leaned against it, closing my eyes for just a moment. The past few days had been a whirlwindthe fire at the Stone estate, the shooting,

and then Sebastien’s hospitalization. I’d barely had a moment to breathe.

Home sweet home,I muttered to the empty space.

Pushing away from the door, I dropped my keys on the side table and slipped off my shoes. My hand instinctively moved to my stomach, a

gesture that was becoming more frequent lately. The small bump wasn’t visible yet, but knowing it was therethat my children were there

-made everything else fade into the background.

We’re okay,I whispered, gently rubbing my abdomen. We’re safe now.

But were we really? The fire at the estate, clearly targeted at my father’s study. The hunter with silver bullets. The fake doctor at the

hospital. Three attempts in such a short time couldn’t be coincidence. Someone wanted meor Sebastien, or both of usdead.

Rachel emerged from the kitchen, a steaming mug in her hands. There you are. I was starting to worry.

I’m fine,I said automatically, though the dark circles under my eyes probably told a different story.

Rachel pressed the mug into my hands. The earthy aroma of herbs wafted up, oddly comforting. It’s a special blend, she explained. Good

for werewolf pregnancies. Helps with the nausea and gives you energy.

I took a sip, surprised by the pleasant taste. Thanks.

She studied my face with concern. You look exhausted. When’s the last time you actually slept?

I slept at the hospital,I said, though those uncomfortable chairs hardly counted.

That’s not sleep, that’s torture.Rachel gently took the mug back and nudged me toward the stairs. Go upstairs and rest. I’ll bring you

some food later.

I started to protestI had emails to check, calls to return, a company to runbut my body betrayed me with a massive yawn.

Fine,I conceded. But just for an hour.

Whatever you say, boss.Rachel’s knowing smile told me she didn’t believe me for a second.

I trudged upstairs, barely managing to kick off my jeans before collapsing onto my bed. Sleep claimed me instantly.

The smell of food pulled me from a dreamless sleep. I blinked at the ceiling, momentarily disoriented until I recognized the familiar pattern of my bedroom. Glancing at the clock, I realized with a jolt that I’d been asleep for nearly four hours.

Downstairs, Rachel was setting plates on the coffee table. Well, look who decided to rejoin the living.

Why didn’t you wake me?I asked, still groggy.

Because you needed the sleep. She gestured to the spread of foodall my favorites. Grilled salmon, roasted vegetables, and fresh bread.

Now you need food.

My stomach growled in agreement, and I sank onto the couch. This looks amazing.

Eat,she commanded. The babies need nutrients.

As I ate, Rachel watched me with that same worried expression. You’ve been running yourself ragged, Iris. At the hospital, you barely

slept, barely ate.

I had to be there,I said quietly. He took that bullet for me.

I know. She sighed. But you have to take care of yourself too.She hesitated, then added, Jack Lowell stopped by while you were

sleeping.
