After dinner, I helped Rachel clean up, then checked the time. Not too late to make a quick visit.

“I should go see Jack,” I said. “He’s probably worried sick.”

Rachel frowned. “You just got home. Can’t it wait until tomorrow?”

I shook my head. “He came all the way here to check on me. The least I can do is return the favor.”

“Fine, but I’m driving you,” she said firmly. “You’re still exhausted.”

“Actually,” I said, looking out the window at Jack’s building next door, “I think I can manage the fifty feet to his place on my own.

Rachel followed my gaze and laughed. “Okay, you win that one. But call me if you need anything.”

1 grabbed my coat and headed over to Jack’s apartment. His household manager answered the door, looking relieved to see me.

“Miss Stone, Mr. Lowell has been quite concerned about you. Please, come in.”

Jack was in his study, reading by the fireplace. When he saw me, he immediately stood, his face lighting up.

“Iris! Thank goodness you’re alright.” He embraced me warmly, then held me at arm’s length to examine me. “You look exhausted, my

dear.”

“I’m fine,” I insisted. “Just a little tired.”

We sat by the fire, and Jack poured us both tea. “I heard about what happened at the hospital,” he said gravely. “First the fire at the Stone

estate, then the silver bullets, now this… someone is clearly targeting you.”

I nodded, my hands tightening around the teacup. “Three attacks in such a short time. It can’t be random.”

“Have you any idea who might be behind it?” Jack asked.

I considered for a moment. “Catherine seems the most likely suspect. She’s never wanted me as part of the family, and now that I’ve taken

control of Stone Industries…” I trailed off, not needing to finish the thought.

Jack’s expression darkened. “It would be just like her to resort to such tactics.”

“But I can’t prove anything,” I added. “And hunters aren’t easy to hire.”

Jack studied me for a long moment, his eyes filled with concern. “Iris, I don’t want to alarm you, but I’m worried about your safety.” He

hesitated, then continued, “I’d like you to accept some additional protection.”

I tensed. “What kind of protection?”

Jack turned toward the back window. “Dina,” he called.

A young woman appeared in the doorway, her expression distant and cold. Something about her reminded me of Sebastien–that same detached, calculating look.

“This is Dina,” Jack explained. “She’s the daughter of our family Beta. Her mother passed when she was young.”

Dina nodded curtly but remained silent.

“Jack, I appreciate the concern, but-”

“Please,” he interrupted. “After what happened to your mother…” Pain flashed in his eyes. “I couldn’t bear to lose you too.”

The mention of my mother–his daughter–softened my resolve. Still, having someone shadowing my every move came with risks. If Dina was constantly around, how long before she noticed my pregnancy? News would spread through the werewolf community like wildfire.

“I spend most of my time in the human world,” I said carefully. “At Stone Industries, or with clients. Having a werewolf bodyguard might draw more attention than it prevents.”
