Jealousy Alpha’s Regret

Chapter 239

They won’t find us,Kim said, though her voice lacked conviction.

Thomas grabbed Catherine’s arm roughly. You and Kim need to leave. You’re not helping the situation.

But Catherine began to protest.

Now, Thomas cut her off, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Catherine threw me one last venomous glare before stalking toward the door, Kim trailing behind her like an obedient shadow. As they left, I could hear Kim whispering furiously to her mother, though the words were indistinct.

Thomas watched them leave, then turned to me with a calculating expression. You always did know how to push their buttons.

I said nothing, just observed him. This wasn’t the Thomas I remembered from my childhoodthe meek, passive man who would do whatever Catherine asked without question. There was something different in his eyes now, something harder and more focused.

You know,he said, studying me closely, you’re quite a lot like your father. That same infuriating calm under pressure.

My heart skipped a beat at the mention of my father, though I kept my expression neutral.

Strange comparison,I said carefully, coming from the man who married his widow before his body was even cold.

Thomas didn’t rise to the bait. He walked slowly around me, like a predator circling prey. That quietness. That watchfulness. He had it too. Like you’re always calculating, always one step ahead. He paused directly in front of me. Must be in the blood.

I watched him warily, suddenly aware of how isolated we were. The warehouse was vast and empty, the guards stationed by the entrances, no one close enough to intervene if Thomas decided to get violent.

Speaking of my father,I said, looking him directly in the eyes, the car accident that killed himI’m guessing that wasn’t as accidental as everyone believed, was it? Not if you’re now desperate enough to kidnap me for money.

Thomas’s eyes flashed with somethingsurprise, perhaps, that I’d made the connection so quickly. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small silver knife. My muscles tensed, preparing for an attack, but he merely began cleaning under his fingernails with the point.

That car that hit your father’s?Thomas said, his voice disturbingly casual. I had it specially modified.

Despite anticipating this confession, hearing it spoken aloud sent a cold wave through my body. My heart thudded painfully, and I had to force myself to keep breathing evenly.

I suspected as much,I said, trying to keep my voice steady. All this time

Thomas continued cleaning his nails, the silver blade catching the dim light, “Your father was always the golden child of the Stone family. The perfect heir, the perfect Alpha. His voice took on a bitter edge. Meanwhile, I was just the spare, the backup plan. Never good enough.

I studied him, seeing the man beneath the resentment for the first time. The Thomas I’d known growing upquiet, unassuming, always in the background- had been a facade. This was the real Thomas Stone, consumed by decades of jealousy and bitterness.

You were never weak, were you?I realized aloud. That was just an act. Catherine thought she was manipulating you, but it was the other way around.”
