Chapter 238
Iris’s POV
Catherine stormed toward me, her face twisted with rage. I remained still, watching her approach with calculated detachment. My hands were bound behind my back, but I felt strangely calm despite the situation.
“You really think anyone actually cares about you?” Catherine spat, her voice dripping with venom. “True wolves know what you are. Just a mixed–blood mum pretending to belong with the pure wolves.”
I met her gaze without flinching. The warehouse air was thick with dust and the lingering scent of rust. Somewhere above, water dripped rhythmically from a leaking pipe. My inner wolf remained unnaturally quiet, conserving energy, waiting.
“Catherine, still classy as ever,” I thought, a cold amusement settling in my chest. The insult wasn’t new I was a teenager. It had lost its sting years ago.

Kim stepped forward, clearly emboldened by her mother’s lead. “This kind of trash has no dignity when it comes to wolf pack honor,” she sneered, gesturing at me like I was something she’d found stuck to her shoe. “No shame whatsoever, just like a stray dog begging for scraps.”
I studied them both, noting how similar their expressions were the same pinched nostrils, the same narrowed eyes. Mother and daughter, cut from the
same cloth. Sharp tongues but dull minds.
“Always so predictable,” I thought. “They think they’re hurting me, but they’re just revealing their own insecurities.*
I deliberately let a small smile play across my lips, knowing it would infuriate Kim.
“What are you smiling at?” she demanded, her voice rising an octave.
I kept my voice even. “I was just wondering something.”
“What?” Kim snapped, her eyes flashing amber with barely controlled wolf aggression.
“You seem pretty confident that someone will pay my ransom,” I said, tilting my head slightly. “But if nobody cares about me, like you just said… who exactly do you think is going to pay to get me back?”
Kim’s mouth opened and closed, her brain visibly struggling to reconcile the contradiction. “That’s–that’s not-
“Because logically, it can’t be both,” I continued, my tone light as if we were discussing the weather. “Either nobody cares about me, in which case your ve kidnapped me for nothing… or someone does care enough to pay two million dollars for my safe return.”
Kim’s face flushed red. “Shut up! You think you’re so smart-
“No, I know I’m smarter than you,” I said, the words flowing out before I could stop them. “After all these years, how are you still this stupid, Kim?”
Catherine’s face contorted with fury. She lunged forward, hand raised to strike me. I didn’t flinch, just stared directly into her eyes.
“Go ahead,” I thought, holding her gaze. “Hit me. Give Sebastien and Ethan and the entire Lowell family the excuse they need to tear what’s left of the Stone pack apart. You know they’re looking for any reason.”
Something in my expression must have communicated my thoughts. Catherine’s hand froze mid air, and I saw a flicker of uncertainty cross her face, Beneath

her rage, there was fear – primal, instinctual fear. She took an involuntary step back, her hand slowly lowering.
“You’ve always been a coward, Catherine,” I thought, a cold satisfaction spreading through me. ‘Brave when you have the upper hand, terrified when you
