Chapter 256
Sebastien’s POV
I adjusted the diamond pin on my black custom suit as our car glided through the evening darkness. My grandfather, William Grey, sat beside me with his usual rigid posture, not a single crease disturbing his impeccable appearance. The
silence between us had ersisted for most of the journey, broken only when he leaned forward to address our driver.

The last time ed through my mind-her back turned to me as she walked away from the Grey estate, shoulders , not once looking back. Damn, why did that image still bother me so much?
tion of the car nearly lulled me into a meditative state, but my thoughts kept circling back to Iris. What like tonight? Would her eyes still flash with that cold anger when she saw me? Or worse-would she look
me as if I didn’t exist?

My wolf instincts picked up on their subtle scent changes-the slight tang of nervousness, the sour note of envy, the sweet undertone of admiration. The Grey name still commanded respect, even here on Lowell territory.
“Last time we parted on bad terms,” I thought, a knot forming in my gut. “I wonder how she’ll face me tonight. Will she still have that look of disappointment in her eyes?”
As we neared the entrance, fragments of whispered conversations/reached my sensitive ears.

I slowed my pace, focusing on a nearby couple. The woman held an elegant invitation card in her hand-cream-colored
with gold embossing that caught the light. I frowned slightly, I hadn’t received such an invitation myself. Was I here only
as William’s plus-one? The thought made my jaw tighten. Had Iris arranged this deliberately?
My eyes tracked my grandfather’s hand as he reached into his inner pocket and withdrew an envelope that perfectly matched the one I’d seen in the woman’s hand. Something cold settled in my stomach. William had received an invitation.
I hadn’t.
The Lowell family’s Beta greeted us at the entrance, his practiced smile not quite reaching his eyes. “Alpha Grey,” he addressed my grandfather with genuine respect. “Jack has been waiting for you. The two Alphas have much to discuss, I’m
sure.*
William handed over his invitation, and the Beta checked it before stepping aside to let him pass. I moved to follow, but a
hand firmly blocked my path.
“Alpha Grey,” the Beta addressed me, his tone polite but unyielding. “Your invitation, please. Each werewolf requires their own individual invitation.”
I kept my expression neutral, though irritation flared hot beneath my skin. My heart rate picked up slightly-a reaction I didn’t want to acknowledge.
‘I’m accompanying William tonight,” I stated, my voice deliberately calm. “I’m acting as his security.”
