Chapter 42
Sebastien’s POV
I stared at Iris, her body wrapped only in a towel, droplets of water
still clinging to her skin. Something fierce and possessive stirred
inside me. My wolf howled, demanding I claim what was mine.
“Only if you please me tonight, I’ll naturally continue to protect the
Stone family’s position in the wolf community,” I said, the words
leaving my mouth before I could stop them.
The disgust that flashed in her eyes cut deeper than I expected. I felt
a sharp sting in my chest but kept my face expressionless. I wouldn’t
let her see how much her rejection affected me.
I loosened my grip on her, not expecting her immediate reaction. Her
leg shot up, her knee aiming straight for my inner thigh. Pain
exploded where she hit me, making me freeze for a split second. Fuck,
that hurt. But somewhere beneath the pain, I felt a grudging
admiration for her fight.
“You bitch,” I hissed, but she’d already slipped away from me.
I watched as she grabbed her phone, fingers shaking slightly as she

dialed a number. Was she seriously calling human security on me? On
an Alpha heir of the Grey family?
“Hello? This is Iris Stone in apartment 1505. I have an intruder.” Her
voice was steady, her eyes never leaving mine. “Yes, I need security
immediately.”
The audacity of this woman. After everything my family had done for
hers.
“The Stone family’s pathetic position is none of my concern
anymore,” she said coldly after hanging up. “If you’re that desperate,
go find another female wolf to satisfy you.”
I stared at her, clenching my jaw so hard it ached. Who was this
woman? What happened to the compliant mate I married?
“Iris Stone,” I warned, my voice dangerously low, “remember what you
said today. The Stone family will no longer receive any protection
from me.”
I bent down to pick up my jacket from the floor, my pride stinging
worse than my thigh. This woman had changed. The Iris I knew would
never have dared to speak to me like this.
“I couldn’t care less,” she shot back, her voice like ice. “I hope you find

what you’re looking for.”
I was about to walk out when I noticed her following me to the door.
A flicker of hope sparked in my chest. Was she regretting her words?
Would she ask me to stay?
ށ
That hope died instantly when I saw her reaching for her phone. She
unlocked it and held it up for me to see as she deleted my access code
from her apartment security app.
The humiliation burned through me like acid. No one had ever
dismissed me so completely. I stared into her eyes, searching for any
hint of the woman who once looked at me with admiration, with
longing. There was nothing there but cold contempt.
I left without another word, the door closing firmly behind me.
Back in my car, I lit a cigarette, inhaling deeply as smoke filled the confined space. My hands were shaking slightly. Fucking hell. What
