Chapter 46
Iris’s POV
A sharp knock on the door interrupted our tense standoff.
“Is anyone in there?” a female voice called from the other side.
I froze, mortified at the thought of being discovered in this compromising position with Sebastien. His arm still circled my waist like an iron band, and the taste of his forceful kiss lingered on my
lips. My heart hammered against my ribs–partly from anger, partly
from something else I refused to acknowledge.
Neither of us answered. After a moment of tense silence, the
knocking stopped.
“Guess it’s empty,” the woman said to someone else. “Let’s wait a
minute, they’re probably just finishing up in there.”
Two female employees had stopped right outside, their conversation
perfectly audible to my enhanced wolf hearing.
“Did you hear about the new creative director?” one of them asked,
her voice excited.

“Yeah, Megan Claire, right? I heard she just got back from Europe.”
My entire body went rigid at the name. Megan Claire? Sebastien’s ex-
girlfriend was here at Crescent Design? My mind raced with questions
and unwelcome realizations.
“She’s absolutely gorgeous,” the first woman continued. “And I heard
she used to date the boss before he got married.”
“Well, maybe that’s why she’s back,” the second woman replied with a
knowing tone. “Everyone knows his marriage is on the rocks.”
I stared at Sebastien’s face, just inches from mine, his eyes dark and
unreadable. Suddenly everything clicked into place. His recent
behavior, the aggressive possessiveness, the mixed signals–it all
made terrible sense now.
This bastard brought his ex–girlfriend to work with me? I thought,
disgust rising like bile in my throat. Is this some sick game to him?
Making me work alongside his former lover while he plays these twisted
mind games?
His hand slid higher up my waist, and I felt my wolf stir with rage. I
stared at him, no longer seeing the handsome face that had once
made my heart race. All I saw was manipulation and cruelty.

“What’s your new kink, Sebastien?” I whispered coldly. “Having your
wife and ex–girlfriend under the same roof? Enjoying the drama?”
His eyes narrowed, but before he could respond, I acted on pure
instinct. A primal fear for the life inside me surged, overriding
everything else.
As his lips approached mine again, I bit down hard on his lower lip,
tasting the metallic tang of blood. I didn’t let go, even when he
stiffened in shock. The wolf in me wanted to hurt him, to make him
feel a fraction of the pain and humiliation he’d put me through.
When I finally released him, Sebastien stepped back, his eyes darkening to a dangerous shade. A drop of blood formed on his lip, though the wound was already beginning to heal–one of the benefits of being a werewolf. His expression was thunderous, but I didn’t care
anymore.
“Don’t you ever touch me like that again,” I said, wiping my mouth with the back of my hand as if trying to remove something disgusting.
How could I ever let this man kiss me?
“You bit me,” he stated, his voice low and controlled, but I could hear
the rage simmering beneath.
“Consider yourself lucky I didn’t rip your throat out,” I replied coldly,

still listening for the women outside. They were still chatting,
oblivious to the drama unfolding just feet away.
I kept my eyes fixed on Sebastien, watching for any sudden
movements. My wolf was alert, ready to defend if necessary. The
silence between us stretched, thick with tension and unspoken
accusations.
I just need to wait until they leave, I thought, my gaze never leaving his
face. I will not give him or anyone else the satisfaction of seeing me
running out of here looking upset.
Finally, the voices outside moved away, their footsteps fading down the hallway. I immediately stepped toward the door, but Sebastien
moved to block my path.
“Move,” I demanded, my voice steady despite the anger coursing
through me.
“We’re not finished here, Iris.”
“We’ve been finished for a long time, Sebastien. The only thing keeping us connected is a piece of paper that will soon be irrelevant.”
I stared directly into his eyes. “Now get out of my way.”
To my surprise, he stepped aside. I yanked the door open and walked

out without looking back, my heart still pounding against my ribs.
The corridor seemed endless as I headed back toward the office area,
trying to calm my breathing.
What the hell is happening? I thought, pressing my hand against my
chest. Why would he bring Megan here? Is he trying to torture me? Or is
he just so arrogant that he thinks I wouldn’t care?
I took several deep breaths as I approached the main office. I couldn’t let my colleagues see me flustered. Get it together, Iris. Don’t let him
see he’s affected you.
As I entered the office space, I noticed most of my colleagues had
returned from lunch. The atmosphere was buzzing with excited
whispers, and I didn’t need enhanced hearing to know they were all
talking about the same thing–Megan Claire.
“She’s from one of the oldest European packs,” I overheard one of the
