What are you talking about? 1 stared at Rachel, watching her fumble with her phone.

Here, look Rachel slid her phone across the table. The wolf forums are blowing up about your wedding. Or should I say, nonwedding.

How bad is it?I asked, my stomach tightening as I reached for the device

As I scrolled through the comments, each one felt like a tiny needle pushing into my skin. My fingers trembled slightly over the screen.

How does a wedding start without the groom showing up?

Did you see the bride’s face? That forced smile was painful to watch lol

Don’t bother waiting, he’s not coming! Grab your popcorn, this is getting good!”

I stopped when I saw a closeup photo of a man sleeping, his eyes closed, surrounded by empty bottles. The background was dimly lit with colorful lightsdefinitely a bar. Even in that state, I recognized Sebastien instantly. The hard lines of his face, now softened by alcohol, were

unmistakable.

Scrolling further, I saw a message from Sebastien’s account: Moonlight Bar Someone come.

That was it. Just four words. Four words that had turned my ceremony into a public joke.

I don’t know how long I stared at the screen before it went dark. Slowly, I placed the phone back on the table, my hands oddly steady now.

You okay?Rachel’s voice sounded far away.

I took a deep breath, feeling strangely detached. So that’s where he was.

The realization settled over me like a heavy blanket. While I’d been standing alone at the altar, he’d been drinking himself into oblivion at a bar. The ultimate statement of how little our marriage meant to him.

I’m not even the most pathetic part of this story,I said, a bitter laugh escaping my throat. It’s the comments. The mockery.

All those eyes watching. All those wolves laughing. Me, standing there in that ridiculous dress, waiting for someone who had deliberately chosen to humiliate me in the most public way possible.

What did I do to deserve this?I whispered, more to myself than to Rachel. Is it because my family’s fallen so far? Because I’m not pure enough for the Grey bloodline?

The ache in my chest felt duller now, like an old wound rather than a fresh one. I’d already lived through the worst of it, standing alone as whispers spread through the crowd. Reading these comments was just watching a replay of a nightmare I’d already survived,

Iris?Rachel reached across the table, concern etched across her face. You haven’t said anything for like two minutes. Are you okay?

I looked up, suddenly aware I’d been lost in thought. I’m fine.*

You sure? Her eyebrows shot up in disbelief. Because you just found out your husband publicly humiliated you and then passed out drunk instead of showing up to your marking ceremony. That’s pretty fucked up, ven for him.

I’m fine, I repeated, surprised to find I meant it. I’ve made my decision,

Rachel leaned back, studying my face. What decision?

About my future. My life. I felt something solidifying inside menot happiness, exactly, but resolve. I’m done letting him or his family

determine my worth.

Relief washed over Rachel’s face. Thank God. I was worried you’d break down. That kind of public shame

I cut her off gently. What’s done is done. I can’t change the past, but I can control what happens next.
