Chapter 208

Aria didn’t even look up from her plate. “That is none of your concern.”

I forced myself to smile, trying to clear the awkwardness. I glanced at Amelia, an idea popping into my head. Well, I can take Amelia to her kindergarten for you this morning, if that helps save you some time.”

“Absolutely not,” Aria said immediately, her fork snapping down against the porcelain plate with a sharp clatter

I opened my mouth to argue, to tell her that I just

to do something nice for my own daughter, but she didn’t give me the chance.

“Leave, Julian,” she said, her voice dropping into a flat, deadpan command that brooked no argument. “I did all of this last night strictly for Amelia. I helped you out of the rain when I knew fully well that you could have just walked to your car and driven yourself back to your own home. But Amelia asked me to, and I accepted. Do not mistake my daughter’s kindness for a second chance.”

I opened my mouth, raising my hands slightly to calm her down. “Aria, please. I didn’t mean to offend you. I just wanted to help.”

She didn’t look moved at all. “You’ve done enough, Julian. We’re running late anyway.”

The anger finally broke through my calm face. I gripped the edge of the table, staring at her. “Why are you making things so difficult? Brandon isn’t Amelia’s father. I am. And you’re keeping my daughter and yourself away from me over one mistake.”

I let out a bitter laugh, looking around the room. “Where is your precious Brandon anyway? Why can’t he just stay in the city? He’s always traveling, leaving the two of you alone.”

Aria stared at me, her eyes completely cold. “Even though Brandon isn’t Amelia’s father, he is the man who has taken care of her. You are just the sperm donor, Julian.”

My chest tightened painfully. “Don’t say those words, Aria,” I said, my voice shaking.

“Mommy?” Amelia suddenly called out from her seat, her small voice full of fear as she looked between us. Aria didn’t look away from me, but she spoke directly to the nanny. “Sarah, take Amelia upstairs right now.”

Amelia opened her mouth to protest, her eyes tearing up. “But Mommy-”

“Amelia, listen to me,” Aria stopped her immediately, her tone sharp and leaving no room for argument. “Go upstairs with Sarah right now. We will talk later.”

Sarah quickly stood up, grabbing Amelia’s hand and leading her out of the dining room. Amelia kept looking back at me until they disappeared up the stairs.

The moment the room was empty, Aria slammed her hands on the table and stood up. “Why the hell can’t you control yourself? You are acting like a lunatic in front of my daughter.”

“Amelia is my daughter too!” I yelled back, the frustration completely taking over.

Aria scoffed, pointing a finger toward the front door. “Get the hell out of my house, Julian.”
