Finley let out a huge sigh of relief. “Honora, thank you so much. If I can secure the rights to this last novel, I’ll owe you big time.”
An unmistakable look of pride crossed Honora’s face. “Finley, I’m your sister. I’m happy I could help. You don’t owe me anything.”
Leopold puffed out his chest. “Don’t worry, Finley. With Honora on the case, her friend will definitely convince Field of Lari. I bet you’ll walk out of that meeting with the rights to the novel in your hands!”
He shot a sideways glance at Larissa, who was still standing in the doorway. “With an IP like this, Starlight Media is going to soar. I’d love to see how someone with such a big mouth plans to ruin our careers then.”
Larissa let out a short, sharp laugh. “My, aren’t we confident? You get one meeting and you’re already sure Field of Lari will sell the rights to you?”
“You underestimate Honora’s connections,” Leopold sneered. “She’s not like you. She knows influential people. The fact that they agreed to a meeting means it’s practically a done deal.” He smirked. “I don’t know where you get the audacity to claim you can destroy us. What are you going to do? Do you know Field of Lari? Can you stop her from selling the rights to Finley?”
Larissa nodded thoughtfully. “Actually, yes. I do know her. And I can definitely make sure she doesn’t sell the rights to Finley.”
Leopold burst out laughing. “You? Know Field of Lari? That’s like me saying I know the King. You’ll say anything, won’t you?”
Larissa just shrugged. “Believe what you want.”
Honora let out a subtle sigh of relief, her voice filled with feigned concern. “Then are you afraid she’ll actually ruin your career? Finley, don’t worry. I promise you, tomorrow’s meeting with Field of Lari will be a success.”
Finley didn’t know how to explain about the poison. He changed the subject. “It’s a long story, Honora. It’s getting late, Mom and Dad are probably waiting for us. We should go.”
“Afraid of losing face in front of your precious sister?” Larissa taunted. “Don’t worry. I’m sure someone so kind and understanding like her won’t mind. If you’re short-staffed tomorrow, you can even ask her to come help.”
Larissa’s mocking words grated on Finley. He was furious but couldn’t show it. All he wanted was to get away, but his crippled leg made a quick escape impossible.
