Watching Avril and her friends, Finley felt a growing sense of unease. He could understand her calling Haskell for support, but why bring Avril? And with her friends? Was this a party? Was Larissa planning something?
Whatever it was, their own plan had to proceed. With his family in shambles—one in a coma, one injured, one disfigured—they had to act now or risk losing everything. The arrow was already nocked; it had to be fired.
Finley pushed his worries aside and walked with Honora toward Josette’s car. The door slid open, and Josette and Jagger stepped out.
As Finley greeted them, he was surprised to see Lucius and Helena in the car as well.
Lucius stepped out, then turned to help his grandmother. “Grandma, be careful.”
Avril’s friends stared at Lucius, his handsome face a match for Haskell’s. One of them whispered in shock, “Mr. Lincoln is here too?”
“What’s going on? I thought he hated being called ‘eternal second-best’ and avoided any event where Haskell was present. But he’s here today… This is going to be good!”
“Avril, you weren’t kidding!”
Avril puffed out her chest. “Of course not. Larissa told me there would be a good show today, and she never disappoints!”
Helena stepped out of the car, leaning on Lucius’s arm. Her gaze immediately found Larissa, the memory of Larissa’s visit to the Lincoln family estate still fresh and infuriating.
“It was a last-minute decision,” Helena said before Josette could reply. “I heard you were making Larissa apologize to my Jagger today, so I decided to come and see it for myself.”
It was just as Vivica had hoped. Larissa had made a powerful enemy.
“Don’t you worry,” Vivica said quickly. “We’ll make sure that girl apologizes until you are completely satisfied.”
Helena glanced at Larissa, then at Haskell beside her. “Haskell is here, I see. No doubt to protect his little tramp. You’d better not disappoint me.”
