Faith agreed without a moment’s hesitation. “Of course, Uncle Thatch. I’ll wire it to you later.”
She then turned her attention back to Haskell, who hadn’t moved.
“Haskell, Uncle Thatch told me what happened with Valeria,” she said, her voice dripping with false sympathy. “Whatever she did wrong, she’s still his daughter. You can’t just cast her out. A punishment should be enough, don’t you think?”
Haskell let out a soft chuckle. “You’ve just reminded me. I should have been more thorough. Then she wouldn’t be here now, parading around in front of me with you.”
As he spoke, a flicker of killing intent sharpened his calm gaze.
Valeria gritted her teeth, glaring at him. “You think I’m still afraid of you, Haskell?” she shouted, though a tremor of fear ran through her voice. “Faith is protecting me now! You can’t touch me anymore!”
Faith stepped in smoothly. “Haskell, even if you refuse to acknowledge Valeria as your sister, I’ve always wanted one. So, I’ve decided to adopt her as my own. Any objections?”
Haskell laughed outright. “Be my guest, if you’re not afraid of inviting trouble into your life. I don’t even want to acknowledge Thatch as my father, let alone the illegitimate daughter he secretly had.”
He then looked directly at Thatch, ignoring his darkening expression. “Have you forgotten that Grandpa already threw Valeria out of this family? Are you so eager to be kicked out yourself that you’d dare bring her back here?”
Thatch clutched Valeria’s hand tightly. “I brought her back to show you that even without your help, I can ensure she continues to live a life of luxury.”
Without waiting for a reply, she began to walk alongside his wheelchair. “It’s been so long since I’ve had a proper stroll through the old estate. Your engagement party was far too chaotic. I came back today specifically to soak in the atmosphere again.”
She glanced down at Haskell’s almost perfect profile, her smile widening. “After all, it won’t be long before my family is the one living here.”
Haskell remained unperturbed.
“It’s a beautiful day,” he remarked lightly. “Perfect for daydreaming.”
Faith’s smile vanished. “How can you be so calm?” she snapped. “Do you honestly still believe you have any chance of becoming the heir to the Palmer family?”
