As if reading his mind, Magnus elaborated, “Think about it. Why did Honora work so hard to please you and Finley? Because she saw you as powerful, as people she could rely on.”
Leopold began to see his relationship with his sister in a new light. Perhaps Magnus was right. Only when he was strong enough to be her rock would she ever consider letting him back into her life.
After a long silence, he finally spoke. “I understand. I’ll go to Starlight Media this afternoon to terminate my contract. I’m signing with Gale Entertainment.”
Magnus nodded, his goal achieved. “Excellent. I’ll have the contract drawn up immediately. We’re ready for you whenever you are.”
His voice was laced with confident anticipation.
…
That afternoon, just as Larissa finished recording the final track in the studio, Ursa rushed over, her expression grave. “Ms. Judson, Leopold is here again. He wanted to wait in your office, but I thought it best to have him wait in the reception lounge instead.”
“I see,” Larissa nodded, knowing exactly what he had come to discuss.
She took the glass of warm water Ursa offered, drank half of it, and then made her way to the lounge. The moment she entered, Leopold’s gaze shot up to meet hers, his eyes filled with a desperate urgency.
Larissa settled onto the sofa opposite him, her face a cool, impassive mask.
A wounded expression crossed his face. “Larissa, I’m serious. If you could just let go of your resentment, I would stay at Starlight and work harder than ever to make money for the company. I meant what I said before—everything I earn would be yours.”
But she rejected his offer without a second thought. “I’m serious, too. I don’t need you to earn money for me.”
A bitter smile twisted Leopold’s lips. Her resolve was absolute; nothing he could say would change her mind.
After a moment, he looked up at her again. “In that case, about what you said before, about terminating my contract…”
