Half an hour later, the car pulled up in front of Starlight Media. Haskell took out his phone and dialed Larissa’s number.
“Larissa, I’m downstairs.”
“Be right down!”
Her cheerful voice was like music to his ears, instantly brightening his mood. A few moments later, she appeared at the entrance, jogging lightly toward the car like a ray of sunshine.
Larissa slid into the car and noticed the containers of food and fresh juice on the back seat. “You brought lunch again,” she said with a smile.
“Of course,” Haskell said, his eyes soft and fond. “You have to treat me and Sire today. I didn’t want you to go hungry, so I had someone prepare it in advance. You can eat on the way.”
The spacious car was equipped with a retractable table, making it easy to eat comfortably. Knowing it was another thirty minutes to Rigby’s place, Larissa didn’t hesitate. “Great! You should eat, too.”
“With pleasure,” Haskell replied.
From the driver’s seat, Crispin glanced in the rearview mirror at his boss and Larissa enjoying their meal. An odd thought popped into his head: Mr. Palmer had really mellowed out. Using a multi-million dollar luxury car as a personal dining room for his fiancée was something new.
“Any moves from Lucius since he figured out Rigby is your brother?” Larissa asked.
Haskell told her about the package.
“Well, if it wasn’t a bomb, it was definitely something meant to hurt you,” Larissa said without hesitation. “And the best way to do that would be to make Rigby and Sire distrust you. It’s probably something related to your mother.”
A wry smile touched Haskell’s lips. “If they’re going after my grandfather, this sounds less like Lucius’s handiwork and more like something Fraser would cook up.”
“This is all just speculation, of course,” Larissa said, popping a piece of braised fish into her mouth. “We’ll know for sure once we see Rigby and Sire.”
Delicious!
Life in Regal City was certainly never dull!
…
By the time they arrived at the upscale apartment complex where Rigby and Sire were staying, Larissa and Haskell had finished their meal. Haskell carried the portion he’d brought for them as they went inside.
