Honora put on an innocent expression. "Livia, you've really got it all wrong. I'm not the Judson heiress anymore. Why would Mr. Lincoln ever be interested in me? I'm just grateful to work for him, to repay his kindness. And I'm sure you're the only one in his heart. No other woman could ever catch his eye."
Milton chuckled. "Honora, you're so sensible it breaks my heart."
Honora gave a bitter smile. "I know my place. I'm not some rich heiress or the top socialite in Regal City anymore."
Milton couldn't resist. "Mr. Lincoln, if you're really not going to take Honora for yourself, why not give her to me?"
Whatever her situation, Honora was still a beauty. She had once been the talk of the town, and even though she’d fallen from grace, she would be fun to have around.
Honora glanced at Lucius and said softly, "If Mr. Lincoln has no objection, I'll be your woman from now on, Mr. Lester."
Lucius looked at Livia, then said flatly, "Do whatever you want."
Milton was overjoyed.
Honora's smile froze for a second before she recovered, acting as if she didn't mind at all. She walked over to Milton and nestled into his arms. "Mr. Lester, I'm your woman now."
The other sycophants laughed. "Congratulations, Milton! You've landed a real beauty!"
Livia looked at the leering faces around her, feeling a wave of disgust. Every single person in this room made her sick to her stomach.
Milton preened. "Honora, since you're with me now, after Larissa loses our bet, I'll let you sit on my lap and watch that bitch lick my boots."
Milton looked surprised. "Theon, what did you do to have Larissa come looking for you personally?"
Nestled in Milton's arms, Honora felt a thrill of excitement. That little slut, coming to Neverending Night alone to find Theon? Was she trying to get herself killed?
Theon was confused. Could it be because he’d leaked those damaging stories about Rigby and Wynn online? Was that all it took for her to come storming into his turf alone in the middle of the night?
He turned to Lucius. "Mr. Lincoln, this is your place. If Larissa dares to cause trouble here, she's showing you a great deal of disrespect!" he declared. "Let her come to the lounge. I'd like to see for myself what this woman is made of!"
Lucius, his face an unreadable mask, instructed his assistant, "Tell our people to let her know Theon is in this lounge. Then bring her up."
