Larissa Judson and Haskell Palmer novel Chapter 810

At the mention of Fergus being injured, Lucius’s face grew even darker. “He was hurt?”

Larissa nodded. “He was. And he said you were the one who beat him up.”

“That’s bullshit!” the Lincoln butler roared. “Young Master would never lay a hand on Fergus!”

“Why not?” Larissa countered. “He’s my cousin, Aunt Josette’s son. Your master already kicked his mother out of the family, so it makes sense he’d take it out on my cousin too.”

Just then, a police car pulled up.

“What’s the situation here?” the lead officer asked, his eyes flickering slightly as he noticed Lucius sitting in the car.

The butler immediately explained the situation.

The officer then walked over to Larissa’s car with his men. “Open the gate. We need to conduct a search.”

Larissa remained unfazed, raising an eyebrow. “And do you have a warrant? You can’t just order me to open my gate.”

The officer’s brow furrowed, but he kept his composure. “We’re just following procedure. If there’s nothing to hide, this won’t affect you. But if someone is missing and is on this property, we have to act to ensure their safety.”

A smirk played on Larissa’s lips. “Oh? Following procedure? Does your procedure involve randomly searching private residences without a warrant? That’s certainly news to me.”

The officer turned back to Larissa. “In that case, we can allow the butler to search the premises. If he finds nothing, you are free to sue him for defamation.”

The butler froze, looking to Lucius for guidance.

Lucius’s face was a stony mask. He said nothing.

“That’s fine by me,” Larissa said, suddenly compliant. “In fact, you officers can come in and search too. I have a clear conscience. I have nothing to fear.”

She turned to the guards inside the gate. “Open up. Let the officers and Mr. Lincoln’s party in to see if I’ve really kidnapped and imprisoned my own cousin.”
