"A company overseas wants to sign me," Leopold explained. "They’ll cover the termination fee."
Magnus scoffed again. "You’ve got some talent and a hell of a lot of luck, kid. Getting to start over abroad… Not like me. Everyone in the industry knows I betrayed my old employer. No one in this town will touch me now."
He sighed, shaking his head. "Looks like we’re in the same boat. You could have had an incredible sister who might have written countless hits for you, taking you to unprecedented heights in the music world. And me, after your older brother Finley was kicked out and Larissa took over, if I had just kept my head down and stayed put, my career could have soared. What a waste."
"Well, good luck," Magnus said, before sighing again and walking away.
Soon after, the other former Starlight employees began trickling out of the HR office, their faces a mixture of anger and regret as they left, defeated.
"I can't believe I left. I'd be in such a good position right now if I had just stayed."
"You're telling me. I was trying to convince my friend to come with me, but she stayed. She told me she just got a raise and is expecting a huge year-end bonus."
"Have you seen Starlight’s stock price? It's through the roof! I'm tempted to buy some shares. If it keeps climbing, I could probably live off the profits until I find a new job."
When they noticed Leopold standing near the entrance, they fell silent, their expressions turning strange. Once they were past him, they started whispering again.
"When you think about it, no matter how bad our situation is, it's not as bad as Leopold's."
"Right? He used to be a rich kid from a powerful family, and now he's been kicked out on his own. I heard his dad even ended up in jail."
"They had a golden goose right in their hands and pushed her away. They have no one to blame but themselves for how things turned out."
Leopold heard every word. His heart clenched.
Leopold paused, his hand hovering over the door.
Inside, Damon sat behind a large desk, facing Director Benedict and the acclaimed actor Fulbright.
"Mr. Tyson, all I can say is that I'll do my best," Director Benedict said, frowning with a look of resignation. "But the public opinion against Gale Entertainment right now is a huge obstacle."
Damon nodded in understanding but pressed on. "Benedict, this is also your chance to prove you're a better director than Gustave!"
Benedict fell silent for a moment, his gaze shifting to Fulbright as if seeking his input.
Fulbright smiled faintly. "I've been in this industry for many years, and the reason I've achieved what I have is because I never quit halfway. Benedict, you don't need to worry so much. With me in the lead role, ‘Soaring High’ will absolutely not lose to ‘Heaven's Will’."
