"Alright," Haskell agreed, his palm gently resting on his legs, feeling the warmth spreading through his muscles.
Half an hour later, Sage and Snowy uncoiled from Haskell's legs and slithered back into Larissa's bag. Their unique massage technique was designed to stimulate circulation and relax the muscles.
Larissa walked to Haskell's side and extended her hand. "Come on. Let's try."
Haskell took her hand, his grip tightening slightly as their palms met. Larissa felt the faint tremor in his fingertips and knew that he was more nervous than he was letting on.
"Don't be tense," she said softly, her other hand supporting his waist. "Slowly."
Haskell took a deep breath and pushed himself up. His legs were still stiff, but he could feel a noticeable improvement in muscle strength compared to the past few days.
One step.
His left foot moved forward, knee bending, calf muscles tensing as it planted firmly on the floor.
Two steps.
His right foot followed. The movement was slow, but each step was steadier than the last.
Larissa held her breath, watching him walk forward, step by step, until he stopped and looked down at her, a smile gracing his lips. "I did it."
She looked up at him, a warmth spreading through her chest.
"Yes, you did," she replied, her voice filled with unmistakable pride.
Haskell gazed down at her, then reached out to cup the back of her neck, pressing his forehead against hers. "Larissa," he said, his voice husky, "thank you."
Larissa blinked away the sudden emotion, deliberately scoffing. "Words are cheap. Once you're fully recovered and we're married, you can show me your gratitude."
Haskell’s chest rumbled with a low laugh. "Alright. I promise I won't disappoint you."
The officer stared, breaking out in a cold sweat. Looks could truly be deceiving!
"Miss, you can't—" he started, but Sharon cut him off. "Apologies, Officer. I'm just disciplining my brother. This is a family matter."
"But…" The officer was at a loss. It felt wrong, but he couldn't argue with her logic. "Family matters should be handled at home."
"Fine. Can I take him home now?" Sharon asked directly.
"Yes, you can, but—"
"Then we're leaving," Sharon declared, waving a hand. The bodyguards who had come with her lifted the dazed Torrin from the floor.
"Miss, you need to sign here before you go," the officer said, exasperated.
