The assistant nodded firmly. “It’s true. Ms. Judson is the majority shareholder of Judson Pharmaceuticals. You can verify it on the official company registry.”
He then gestured subtly toward the silent figure standing beside Larissa. “Furthermore, Mr. Haskell Palmer of the Palmer Group is also here. While this may be a different industry, I don’t think anyone here would dare question Mr. Palmer’s management expertise.”
“Haskell Palmer? From the Palmer Group?”
A hush fell over the room.
The department head knew the name well—the young prodigy was a legend in Regal City’s business world, a man who had built an empire before he was thirty.
To see him here, in their conference room, was surreal. He swallowed hard, his gaze shifting from Haskell to Larissa and back again. Finally, he turned to his team. “You heard her. Let’s get back to work and find the source of that malfunction.”
With a clear chain of command restored, the engineers filed out, their purpose renewed.
Larissa looked at Haskell, a hint of gratitude in her eyes. “Haskell, thank you for staying with me through this. But it’s getting late. You should go home and get some rest.”
He shook his head, his voice gentle but firm. “I’m not going anywhere. I’m staying here with you until we get some answers.”
If he couldn’t be by her side at a time like this, what kind of fiancé would he be?
Neville’s assistant added, “Ms. Judson, now that the team is back on the case, you and Mr. Palmer should get some rest in your father’s office. I’ll notify you the moment we have a breakthrough.”
Jedidiah waved a hand, silencing the man. He looked at Lucius, his eyes cold with disappointment, but he held back from a full reprimand. He still needed him.
“Don’t worry,” Lucius said quickly. “I’ve already retaliated against Larissa. Her father, Neville, has been arrested. She’ll be too busy cleaning up that mess to cause any more trouble.”
“I told you not to let things with her escalate,” Jedidiah said, his voice a low growl. “But now she’s plastered my business all over the internet, stopping just short of naming me directly.”
“I assure you,” Lucius vowed, “this time, she won’t be able to wriggle her way out of it.”
After being released from a grueling 24-hour police interrogation, Lucius had wasted no time. He had immediately triggered the fail-safes he’d planted within Judson Pharmaceuticals long ago.
