Larissa stared at the photos of herself and Rigby. Seriously? They weren't even kissing, and there was no physical contact that could be remotely misinterpreted. Just because she was seen leaving his house, people assumed they were having an affair?
Earlier that day, after finishing Haskell's treatment, Larissa had made time to see Sire for another session. Haskell had a meeting, so he didn't join her.
When she left, Rigby had walked her out, looking like he wanted to say something but couldn't find the words—no doubt conflicted over Sire's condition. Larissa hadn't pressed the issue, simply giving his shoulder a light pat. "Focus on your work," she'd said, and then she was gone.
What kind of a platonic affair was this?
Whatever. The plan was to clear Rigby's name anyway, so she might as well use this publicity to her advantage.
She gathered the audio recording from the director Rigby had allegedly assaulted on set and the evidence debunking the school bullying accusations. She sent everything to her secretary, Ursa. "Ursa, I've sent you the materials and evidence to clear Rigby's name. Let this rumor about us brew for two days, then have our media contacts release everything on the evening of the third day."
Ursa’s eyes lit up. "Of course, Ms. Judson."
Then, a thought struck her. "Does this include a statement clarifying your relationship with Rigby?"
The rumor had just broken. How could the clarification materials already be prepared? That seemed impossible.
As she suspected, Larissa replied, "No, this is to clear his name regarding the old accusations of assaulting a director and bullying a classmate."
Ursa's eyes widened. "Then what about you, Ms. Judson…"
"I'll clarify my relationship with Rigby later," Larissa said calmly.
"However…" Larissa began, letting out a deliberate sigh to sound troubled, "I'm not quite sure how to explain this 'affair' to the public."
There was a pause on the other end. Then, Rigby said, "If this is going to seriously impact you, I can reveal my identity. That would put an end to all the questions."
A pleased smile spread across Larissa's face. "Oh, really?"
After another moment of silence, he confirmed, "Yes. I'll talk to Mr. Palmer and figure out the best time to announce our relationship."
Just as she hung up, the light turned green. Larissa took off her Bluetooth earpiece, hit the accelerator, and headed home.
She had just parked in the garage when her phone rang. It was Haskell, and his voice was buzzing with excitement. "Rigby just called me! He said he's worried the rumors will affect you and ‘Heaven's Will’, so he's agreed to go public about being my brother."
