Larissa's Game of Thrones (Larissa) novel Chapter 259

Zendar’s words made the smile freeze on Paxton’s face.

Neville said mockingly, “Don’t waste your breath, Paxton. Zendar came here tonight for Larissa’s engagement party. He has no intention of discussing business with you.”

Zendar scoffed, making no effort to spare Paxton’s feelings. “A man of his character wants to partner with the Schwartz family? He must be dreaming.”

The nearby guests began to whisper again.

“What’s going on between Zendar and Paxton?”

“Looks like Paxton tried to cozy up to him, but Zendar isn’t interested.”

“And it seems Zendar is here for the Judson heiress, not as a guest of the Palmers.”

“I heard about that whole mess at the Judson family. At her welcome banquet, the real heiress revealed that Paxton and his wife are her biological parents, but they rejected her because she was a country girl.”

“Well, it looks like that heiress is more impressive than anyone thought, being friends with these three legends!”

“Paxton must be regretting his decision now. What a huge loss!”

The thought of her bet with Larissa made her chest tighten. “I told you, if I failed to get this meeting for my brother, I would have to kneel and apologize to Larissa!”

“Enough,” Jagger interrupted impatiently. “My being here tonight is already a huge favor to you and your family. And it’s your own fault for making such a stupid bet with a little girl without knowing all the facts! You brought this on yourself!”

His words made Josette’s blood boil. “I only made that bet because you were so confident you could do it! Now that things have gone wrong, you’re blaming it all on me! Jagger, we’ve been married for years, do you have any conscience at all?”

“Don’t forget,” Jagger said dismissively, “this was just a marriage of convenience.”

While Josette was fuming and Paxton was wishing the ground would swallow him whole, a clear, pleasant voice cut through the air.
