She didn’t reply, simply relaying the message to Haskell.
He seemed intrigued. “What’s your plan?”
“Simple,” Larissa said. “I’ll just make sure their show is a complete disaster. They’ll almost certainly cast Livia as the lead, so I’ll just have to… arrange for a little sacrifice from their male lead.”
She took a bite of specialty fried rice with fresh herbs and organic eggs, savoring the flavor.
“A good idea,” Haskell noted. “But what if they cast a reputable actor with a clean record? Someone without any skeletons in his closet?”
Larissa smiled dismissively. “How many of these young idols are truly clean? To beat us to market, Gale will rush production. They won’t have time for a thorough casting process. All I need to do is give a little push from behind the scenes, and a major scandal involving their chosen lead will conveniently erupt.”
Her confidence was radiant. The more Haskell saw of it, the deeper his admiration and fascination grew.
“I heard Gale poached quite a few people from Starlight Media. Your company must be short-staffed. Do you need my help?”
“No need,” Larissa waved a hand. “I’ve already arranged for a new team. They’re all top-tier professionals. From filming to marketing, they’ll handle everything flawlessly. I can guarantee that ‘Heaven’s Will’ will be the most perfectly executed hit series of the last decade.”
Haskell raised an eyebrow. “That confident?”
Larissa lifted her chin, a brilliant smile spreading across her face. “I never fight a battle I can’t win. And I don’t just win, I win beautifully.”
Haskell picked up a bottle of Paddy’s Home’s signature house-brewed wine and poured two glasses. He raised his. “Then here’s to your victory, Larissa.”
Suddenly, a ringtone sounded from behind him.
Avril spun around, pretending to answer her phone. “Hello? Oh, Haskell! No, I’m fine, don’t worry. What? The meeting’s over already? You and Larissa are heading back? Okay, sounds good.”
Torrin frowned. His call to Larissa went unanswered, and then, after a few rings, it was disconnected. It was clear she wanted nothing to do with him.
He lowered his phone. He had told himself he was done with her, but her image still filled his mind. He couldn’t let go.
Finally, he gave in and sent a text.
[Larissa, I still can’t give up on you. I’ve thought it over. I don’t have to be your number one. I can be your number two! You don’t have to marry me. You can marry Haskell. I’ll be your lover! You just have to spend one day a week with me. A woman as amazing as you shouldn’t belong to just one man!]
