“Judging by his attitude,” Paxton thought, “he hasn’t forgiven us yet. Is he really not going to let us move back? I’m his son, for God’s sake! And Leopold and Finley are his grandsons!”
“Don’t waste your time trying to butter him up,” Neville said, walking past them. “Dad listens to Larissa now. As long as she doesn’t forgive you, none of you are moving back into the Judson estate.”
After that, he took Sapphira’s hand and followed after Larissa and Kiernan.
Watching them go, Vivica muttered bitterly, “What’s Neville so smug about? If he hadn’t stolen our daughter, he wouldn’t have a thing! He’s only where he is because of our flesh and blood. The nerve of him!”
Leopold reminded her again, “Mom, don’t say things like that in front of Grandpa and Larissa.”
“I know, I know,” Vivica said, taking a deep breath. “For Finley’s sake, I can hold my tongue.”
Finley’s stomach churned. He couldn’t stand being a burden to his family.
“Don’t worry, Finley,” Leopold said, trying to comfort him. “Grandpa will plead your case. He wouldn’t let you suffer like this.”
Finley managed a weak smile. “I hope so. Let’s go. We’ll know soon enough if I have a chance.”
With that, he limped after them.
Watching his son’s pained, uneven gait, Paxton found it hard to accept their new reality. Not long ago, their family had been happy and prosperous. Now, everything was in ruins. His older son had not only lost a leg but was also tormented daily by a poison that left him a shell of his former self. He himself had lost his little finger, a permanent mark of his downfall.
His goal wasn’t just to cure Finley’s poison. He was going to take back everything that was rightfully his—the Judson family fortune.
And that wasn’t all. He would never forgive his own daughter, Larissa. Even if they had wronged her in the past, she was his child. She had no right to disrespect her elders and bring such ruin upon her own family.
...
Vivica forced a smile. “...That’s alright. I can get it myself.”
Larissa scoffed. “The herbs in this soup are my own creation. A single stalk is worth over ten million. Do you think you’re worthy of it? Don’t flatter yourself.”
Vivica was speechless. She plastered on another fake smile. “Fine, I won’t have any. More for your grandfather, then.”
Larissa served her father a bowl before finally getting one for herself.
Kiernan took a sip and nodded in approval. “Even though it’s made with medicinal herbs, it tastes wonderful.”
Seeing Kiernan in a good mood, Leopold seized the opportunity. “Grandpa, about what I mentioned earlier, regarding Finley…”
Kiernan glanced at his older grandson, then took another spoonful of soup. “Let’s eat first. We can talk after we’ve finished.”
