Larissa just smiled. “You think a country girl like me is the leader of the Global Talent Alliance?”
“I have no doubt,” Haskell said earnestly. “You have the capability.”
“So, how much do you know about this Global Talent Alliance?” Larissa asked.
“Four years ago, a mysterious organization appeared,” Haskell began. “Its members were mostly from unconventional backgrounds, all world-class geniuses. In just a few short years, it made a name for itself globally, controlling key sectors from biomedical science and advanced technology to finance and the arts. It even established an institute for the advancement of human civilization, spearheading major projects like artificial intelligence.”
“The leader is rumored to be a young woman. The popular theory is that she’s the daughter of a high-ranking official, with military backing that enabled her to build such an organization. I imagine no one would ever suspect that the head of the Global Talent Alliance is you, a village apothecary.”
“I’ve also heard,” Haskell continued, his admiration evident in his voice, “that the Global Talent Alliance coordinates international resources to resolve global crises. The organization also has an enforcement arm that hunts down fugitives and maintains a certain kind of world order.”
Larissa chuckled. “You know quite a bit. Honestly, the initial goal was simple: to give talented people from outside the system a platform to showcase their abilities.”
“Later, I realized that having them just take on simple commissions for money was a waste of their potential. So we started paying attention to global affairs and proactively helping to solve problems. That’s how we gradually built our reputation.”
“Many countries have tried to absorb the organization for their own use, but I’ve always refused. I refuse to let this organization become some country’s attack dog, to be sicced on command. I want it to be a sword hanging over the world, ready to strike down evil wherever it appears.”
Her last words were spoken with a steely resolve.
So that explained it, Haskell thought. That’s why Larissa isn’t afraid to take on the Lincoln family, why she’s determined to bring them down.
It was during his recruitment efforts that he discovered some of the individuals he most admired had rejected his very generous offers. A quiet investigation by Crispin revealed that they had all joined the same mysterious organization.
After that, Haskell gave up on recruiting them and instead cultivated friendships with them. Those friendships had proven invaluable in countless ways.
“Crispin, do you think I’m still worthy of Larissa?” Haskell asked, his voice barely a whisper.
The question was so quiet, yet it made Crispin’s foot falter on the accelerator.
“Sir, you shouldn’t disparage yourself like that. Ms. Judson doesn’t care about such things. If she did, she wouldn’t have agreed to the marriage proposal when you went to her village. Besides, you are an exceptional man. In all of Regal City, who can compare to you? When you could still walk, countless women dreamed of marrying you.”
