She drew out the word, then her voice sharpened. “Why don’t you test me and see just how badly I can hurt you?”
Lucius didn’t dare to call her bluff. When this woman went crazy, she feared nothing.
“Good boy. That’s better,” Larissa said, releasing the wire. Then, in a single fluid motion, she kicked his knee.
Caught off guard, Lucius crumpled to the ground. Before he could react, Larissa drove her knee up into his chin, sending him flying backward onto the pavement.
“Mr. Lincoln…!”
The bodyguards tried to rush forward, but they suddenly found themselves paralyzed again, collapsing one by one, foaming at the mouth.
Lucius lay on the ground, watching them fall, his hands clawing at the cold stone.
He had made sure his men were wearing protective gear and gas masks. How was this still happening? How did she do it?
Paxton, still kneeling by the gate, watched the chaos unfold, utterly dumbfounded. For the first time, he truly understood just how terrifying his daughter was.
No one in all of Regal City had ever dared to treat Lucius like this.
No, it was more than that. No one had ever been able to bring Lucius so low.
A crushing weight settled over Paxton. In that moment, he was consumed by a profound, genuine regret and thought, “Why? When I found out Honora wasn’t my real daughter, why didn’t I go and bring my true daughter home myself? Why didn’t I try to comfort her, to repent for what I had done? If only…”
With that, she kicked him in the jaw again, filling the arrogant man’s mouth with blood.
At that moment, the emotion burning inside Lucius was no longer anger. It was fear. He was beginning to be truly afraid of Larissa.
Lucius struggled to open his eyes. “Larissa, I apologize… Can we just call a truce?”
Larissa scoffed. “An apology? I never thought I’d see the day the great Mr. Lincoln would beg for mercy.”
Lucius swallowed a mouthful of blood and continued, “Larissa, I’m sorry. The Lincoln family should never have gotten involved in your family’s affairs. If you let us go, we will never bother you again. You can name your price. Whatever we can do to compensate you, we will. And what we can’t, we will find a way to do.”
Larissa let out a cold laugh. “Too late. If your family’s dirty business had stayed overseas, I might have turned a blind eye. But then I found out what you were doing right here in our country, using people like Trudy for your schemes. So, I am going to destroy you all.”
