“It doesn’t matter!” Arlo’s tone was firm. Compared to the future of the Lester Group, the pride and dignity of his good-for-nothing youngest son meant nothing.
“I understand, sir.”
After the call, Arlo went back to monitoring the stocks of the Lincoln family’s businesses. When Larissa had first crossed them, everyone thought she was signing her own death warrant. Even if she married Haskell, no one believed he would protect her; they expected him to call off the engagement.
Who could have predicted the Lincolns would be brought so low?
If he didn’t want to be dragged down with them, it was time to seriously consider how to cut ties.
…
In the top-floor VIP room of Neverending Night, Lucius hurled a bottle of whiskey at the large LCD screen. The news was playing a loop of his grandmother’s confession and arrest. The amber liquid streamed down the shattered screen like bloody tears.
A raspy voice emerged from the shadows. “Sir, a message just came from… him.”
Lucius froze, a shard of glass from his hand digging deep into his palm. Blood dripped onto the silk rug, blooming like dark red flowers. Unable to quell his rage, he collapsed back onto the sofa and dialed Livia’s number.
It rang and rang, unanswered.
“What, even Livia dares to abandon me now? Wasn’t she the one desperate to marry me?”
The thought sent a fresh surge of fury through him, and he shot to his feet.
His assistant rushed after him. “Mr. Lincoln, where are you going?”
“Gale Entertainment!”
…
At the chairman’s office of Gale Entertainment, Damon Tyson watched his company’s stock plummet, feeling his heart break all over again.
“Mr. Tyson, Mr. Lincoln is here.”
An hour later, the office door opened.
“Why did you call me in such a…”
Livia’s voice trailed off as she saw Lucius. He shot up from the sofa, crossed the room in three strides, and grabbed her arm.
“Get out,” he snarled at Damon and his own assistant.
Damon knew the order was for him. He scurried out of the room. The assistant glanced worriedly at Livia. “Sir…”
“Get out!” Lucius roared.
The assistant hesitated for another second before retreating and closing the door behind him, his last sight a glimpse of Livia’s back.
Lucius shoved Livia onto the sofa and loomed over her. “Livia, what the hell is this? I called you a dozen times, and you didn’t pick up!”
