Ronan paces around the long wooden table while everyone talks over each other.

Hazel stands near the center, hands braced against the tabletop, eyes bright with that dangerous kind of excitement that makes my wolf want to rub against her. Aria is right beside her looking more lively then she has since the

battle.

We need to watch her, my wolf says, she still has a thirst for revenge.

Can’t blame her but don’t worry we can keep an eye on it.

“Do you really think you can do it?” Ronan asks.

Hazel shrugs looking at her cousin. He gives her a look I can’t read. “Sure we can, assuming you’ll be prepared to use them. I know shifters prefer to fight with their biological weapons.”

“We’ll adapt,” Barric asserts. “This isn’t about honor. It’s about survival and we will do whatever it takes to save our packs and remove those who threaten us.”

She taps her fingers on the desk. “Fine. I’ll need to get the formulas I stashed, but it can be done. I will do it.”

Felix grunts from where he sits. “It’s nightmare science time.”

“Easy there mad hatter. You’re not allowed near whatever she’s doing,” Theo says.

“I second that. I’m going,” Kiara states excitedly.

Felix points at him. “Last time I checked I was the Sypher expert.”

“And I’m the healer so if we’re going to create a weapon to fight the poison, then I’m obviously the right choice for a partner,” Kiara snaps.

“Are you two really fighting to make magical fire weapons?” Kade laughs.

“Yes!” They say in unison.

“Alright, alright.” Ronan gives both of the men an exasperated look. “We can work out the details later. Let just

focus” he turns to Hazel and I take a step closer to her. It is not that I think Ronan will hurt her if just my woll

uncomfortable with such a powerful male giving her undivided attention. “Where are the formulas being held?”

Ransom runs a hand through his hair before pulling it into a bun at the top of his head. “In my house. I’ll run out

and grab it.”

“No.” Elliot’s voice is hard, final.

Ransom looks at him like he’s a bug in his windshield. “Did you forget to take your meds, because you’re imagining

authority you don’t have.”

“Careful, princess. I do enjoy our games but I won’t sit back and allow you to put yourself in danger.”

God’s am I this unhinged?

No. Our mate wants us. She is just making us work for it like any strong female would, my wolf says.

“I’m dangerous,” Ransom says “And even if I weren’t I’m the only one who can find it.”

“We’ll send a team with you in case there is trouble,” Ronan says.

Elliot gives Ronan a look that would quell a lesser man.

I don’t blame him. Finding your mate is one thing, but having them be a human, someone who would always be more vulnerable, breakable, had a way of sending your protective instructions into overdrive.

Even if Elliot is unhinged I can still sympathize with his plight.

Elliot blows out a breath. “I will send Sigrid with him.”

“I tag along too,” Theo says, missing Hazel. “Don’t worry I’ll keep your cousin safe.”

“Appreciate it,” Hazel says, giving Ransom a mischievous grin.

“I’ll go get ready.” Ransom says ruffling Hazel’s hair. “Best to leave as soon as we can.”

“Don’t die or I’ll kill you,” she says affectionately.

“Back at you,” Ransom calls, heading out with Theo and Elliot following.

“So,” she claps her hand looking at Felix and Kiara, “I’d like to use you both for your respective experuse buy for

now I’m going to go do some research. Once we have the formulas we can get to her and come up with a plan.”

Look at her taking charge, she is perfect, my beast practically drools over his mate.

“Sounds good to me,” Kiara chirps.

Feels salutes her.

“Well, thank you for listening, Ronan. I’m going to head to the library to get a head start.”

Hazel leaves the room without a backwards glance.

Felix’s whistles. “You lucky bastard. Fate sure took care of you.”

I roll my eyes. “You aren’t even attracted to women.”

“Just because I don’t want to push inside them doesn’t mean I’m blind. Beautiful is beautiful.”

“I hate to say it but he’s right,” Kiara says.

“I like it better when the two of you are fighting,” I grumble, as I walk to follow her.

I figure I let her get enough of a head start so I could clear my head.

“Do everything I would do,” Felix calls after me.

Today Hazel is going to learn I’m not a male she can shake off.

I’ll invade her space, her life, her thoughts until there is no telling where she and I start and end.

I stop by my room to collect the Sphyer files Felix extracted, figuring she would be more amicable to my presence if I bring her a little gift.

My wolf rolls his eyes.

I reach the library and move through the half finished shelves until I reach the research table in the back. Books are stacked on various places on the floor, on carts and some on tables, still in the process of being organized.
