Chapter 179
Liam
The heat of the forge wraps around me like cellophane.
I’ve only been down here for half an hour and I already want to leave.
I have no idea how Ransom spends so much time down here. I could never do it. Even with my wolf’s enhanced tolerance, sweat drips
down my back beneath my shirt as I stand beside the workbench and watch Ransom make the final adjustments to the claw blades spread
out before him.
The fire roars from the pit. Sparks fly as his hammer hits molten metal that glows orange in the dim light.
Hazel and Felix are gathered near another table, discussing the next stage of the enchantment process while Elliot leans against a stone
pillar with his arms crossed.
The Alpha watches Ransom with a curious mix of adoration and frustration.
My wolf paces beneath my skin curious about the weapons dispute himself.
Ransom glances up. “You know staring doesn’t increase the speed of the process right?”
“Can’t I simply enjoy the sight of my princess hard at work,” Elliot says.
Hazel snorts, earning her a withering look from Ransom.
“What you can do,” Ransom calls back, “is go make yourself useful until I’m ready for you.”
“Should I come back tonight then?” Elliot says suggestively.
Felix whips around. “oh would you just fuck each other already. Preferably out in the open so I can watch.”
“Now that is an idea ai can get behind,” Elliot says with a grin that is almost playful.
For a moment I’m shocked at how much variance being around Ransom brings out of such a brutal male.
Not for the first time I wonder if they are true mates.
“Eww, no. That is not happening with me here,” Hazel says.
Ransom just mutters something under his breath, looking over his work from all angles.

Chapter 179
A smile tugs at my mouth.
Over the last few weeks, Ronan and I have developed something that resembles friendship. It was strange given our bloody past but I’m
not angle and I don’t expect my enemies to treat me as anything less.
But I respect him. Like it or not he puts his people’s needs before his own personal wants and desires and that is the mark of a true
Alpha.
It isn’t exactly trust, but it is close enough. With Hazel being my true mate and Ransom being her family, it makes us sort of family too,
of what I’m getting from him is right.
I catch myself watching him. How even when his attention is on Ransom he makes an effort with Hazel as well.
He also doesn’t go around exerting his dominance.
Of course that doesn’t make him any less unpredictable, but it’s a tamer version.
The male doesn’t even realize he’s doing it, getting comfortable with us.
Ransom finishes tightening the final bracket and steps back from the workbench.
“There.” He wipes soot from his hands and motions me forward. “Come on. Let’s see if these fit.”
I move toward him looking at his work up close. The claw blades are impressive. Curved steel extensions designed to fit over a shifter’s
natural claws.
I didn’t know what to expect but it wasn’t this. The style will fit seamlessly into our style and fighting techniques making it each to
incorporate our new advantage into what we already know.
Where making weapons such as swords or bow and arrows would have required training on how to use them properly, these steel claws
give us an edge that won’t hinder our fighting force.
It’s really genius.
“Shift out your claws. Give ‘em a test drive,” Ransom orders.
“I feel like a kid again,” I say excitedly as I doo
The familiar burn races through my fingertips as black claws emerge from my hands.
Ransom carefully slides the metal weapon over my claws. The steel settles into place with a smooth click.
My eyebrows rise as I flex my fingers. “Damn. That’s pretty fucking smooth.”

Chapter 179
The metal slides like nothing I’ve ever seen before. Its smooth anatomical design makes it feel like an armored second skin.
Like it belongs there.
Elliot pushes away from the wall. “Looks good. Now let’s see how well you can fight with it.”
1 slash experimentally through the air. The blades whistle. Sharp. Deadly. Efficient.
“You sure you want to risk it. Wouldn’t want to ruin your pretty face.”
Elliot looks at Ransom. “You don’t mind a few scars do you baby?”
Ransom didn’t bother correcting him.
Without warning I attack and Elliot and I engage in a short spar. The claws feel great on mine, adding slightly more weight but light
enough for me to still retain my speed.
I strike the claws against the stone, satisfied when deep groves are left in the stone.
A weapon designed by predators for predators.
I grin as we come to the end of the demonstration.
“Any issues?” Ransom asks.
