Last Female Sypher and Her Brother's Friends novel Chapter 97

Chapter 97

Ronan

The roar of battle fills my ears, sweat dampening my skin as violent snarls, cracking bones, and grunts of pain fill the hall

that is supposed to be used for negotiation. For peace.

What a fucking joke.

Blood thickens the air, the copper scents almost masking the individual scents of the shifter banding together. The shifters that betray their own people. A meaty fist arches toward me. I lean on my back foot, years of instinct and reflexive training taking over while I process the fact that we are now surrounded, my enemies. That I brought my mate right to

them.

My wolf is pacing inside me, restless, furious, straining against the leash of my control. Let me out, he growls, claws scraping along the edges of my mind. I will make sure they remember this day as the day when they made the fatal mistake of

crossing me.

While that’s great and all, maintaining our current form is more important than revenge.

My wolf gives me a putout look. Aware that this is the logical thing to do, but still not pleased with it. His mood blackens, and I know he won’t rest until every last person who put out my mate in danger pays in blood.

And they will, once Aria is somewhere safe.

I duck as a blade whistles past my throat, pivoting on my heel and driving my elbow into a male’s jaw. I feel the crack, the give of solid structure before he drops. I’m shoved by colliding bodies, stumbling forward a few paces before managing to

right myself.

Once my feet maintain balance, another comes at me from the side. To slow. I recognize his scent. Nathaniel. An enforcer in the Riverend Pack. I don’t give the sense of disloyalty a chance to take root. Grabbing his wrist, I twist and shove him straight into the path of a lunging wolf. Pain lances down my back. I turn, and someone slams into me on the side. A grey wolf, the one responsible for making me bleed, doesn’t hesitate. Its lungs. Taking advantage of the other male attacking me. We go down in a blur of teeth, fists, knees, and claws.

I fight hard, but more keep coming. An endless string of males who believe they are fighting to protect their packs from

ending up like ours.

Around me, pandemonium as I try to fight Aria in the fray.

Kade is a storm. Gone is his funloving, light smile and devilmaycare attitude, and in his place is the male who watched his parents burn in the pack house with mine. The one who learned there is no room for a grey area when your family is

on the line.

like a weapon; every part of his body is used to strike, block, and deliver savage attacks.

Liam is something else entirely ffe’s in his hybrid form, his body towering over everyone else by at least three heads. Every swing of his arm sends bodies flying. He releases an eerie cackle that sounds somewhere between a hyena’s call and

a smoky laugh.

The Nightbane, Ryland, Eastgrove, and Bayridge packs- packs that barely tolerate each other in our everyday livesare

fighting side by side.

At least we know who we can trust, my wolf says.

Odd that it would be enemies who stand by our side.

My wolf inclines his head. Take note. This moment will tell you more about them than any past grievance.

A flash of onyx hair draws my eyes. My gaze snaps to Aria.

She’s holding her own, but I can see the strain in her movements, the tightness in her shoulders. A bead of sweat drips from her brow, sliding down a cheek that is too flushed to be the product of normal exertion.

Her body jerks. Her jaw tightens as she blinks rapidly.

Fuck she’s fighting the shift.

What am I saying, of course she is.

I doubt her wolf could surface without the flames with this level of danger surrounding her.

My wolf urges me to go to our mate, but I’m moving before he can start to growl.

She can’t take this much longer. Her wolf is fighting to take control, my wolf snarls.

I’m bitten and slashed, punched and kicked as I fight my way to her.

Aria!I scream, getting her attention, and once she sees me, she starts to change direction.

But even as we fight, even as we hold ground, I know we can’t keep this up forever. There are simply too many people

against us.

This wasn’t meant to be a meeting to discuss the Vail.

It’s a trap.

Pushing through the last throng of bodies that separates us, I snatch Aria into my arms and settle her behind me.

I’m not sure how much longer I can hold her back, she says, blue eyes wild.

I need you to try to hold on, get you out of here,I promise, and I mean it.
