Chapter 220

Footsteps echoed from the staircase.

Brielle descended slowly, taking in the scene with growing confusion.

“What is going on here?” she demanded.

Her gaze landed on Garrick first. “What is he doing here?”

Then shifted to Kaelani.

“And what is she doing here?”

Kaelani leaned back against the cushions, unfazed.

“Perfect,” she said, “everyone’s here…”

Her eyes moved between them.

“Now it’s a proper family affair.”

Brielle stepped fully into the room, her composure sharpening as she took in Garrick seated beside Kaelani.

“You’re supposed to be behind bars,” she said, her gaze cutting to him. “What are you doing out?”

“I was released,” Garrick replied instantly.

Brielle’s expression didn’t soften.

“It changes nothing,” she said coldly. “Our bond has been severed. Christian is the Alpha of Silveredge. He banished you.

“Actually…” Kaelani cut in, her eyes on Christian.

“Christian is not the rightful Alpha heir.”

She held the room with her next words.

“I am.”

Christian let out a short, disbelieving laugh.

Elara joined him.

Brielle’s laughter followed, thin and sharp.

“You?” Brielle said. “The illegitimate bastard child?”

Kaelani didn’t react.

“That’s right,” she said. “Illegitimate or not, I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know. I am Garrick’s eldest chikt. ”

Her gaze held Brielle’s.

“Under Lycan law, that makes me first in line.”

Christian shot to his feet.

“By three fucking days.”

Kaelani’s focus shifted to him.

“You preceded Elara by eight minutes,” she replied. “Eight minutes.

Her lone didn’t rise

“Three days. Eight minutes. Three seconds. It doesn’t matter.”

“Law is law.”

Elara’s composure sharpened as she spoke.

“You are Julian’s mate,” she said. “How do you intend to serve as Alpha of Silveredge while standing as Luna of Blackthorn?”

Kaelani regarded her straight on.

“It requires very little effort for me to be in one place one moment and another the next,” she answered. “But that is neither your concern nor the issue before us.”

Her attention shifted back to Christian.

“Step down, Christian,” she drawled. “Renounce your claim and spare yourself unnecessary difficulty.”

Christian’s expression hardened.

“And if I refuse?”

Kaelani watched him with the detached interest of a hawk looking at a mouse.

“You know exactly how this is handled,” she replied. “You may challenge me before the pack. They will decide who is fit to lead Silveredge.”

Christian gave a humorless laugh.

“Then let them decide,” he shot back. “Whether they want an Alpha trained for this role since birth… or a worthless omega who clawed her way out of the gutter.”

The insult hung in the air.

Before Kaelani could respond, a quiet voice broke the silence/

“I choose Lady Kaelani.”

All eyes turned.

Evelyn stepped forward, hands trembling but lifted with resolve.

Another maid joined her.

“And I choose Lady Kaelani.”

Then another.

The guards near the entrance exchanged glances. One stepped forward. Then two more

“I stand with Lady Kaelani.”

Christian’s face darkened.

“Silence!” be roared. “All of you silence!”

The room flinched. Heads bowed instinctively under years of conditioned authority.

Kaelani watched the shift with measured calm.

She let the silence stretch before speaking.

“you should have considered how you speak to-and treat the people you expect to follow you.”

A cord of muscle tightened in Christian’s neck.”I’m not renouncing shit.”

The ticking continued overhead

The sound seemed to burrow into him, each second grinding against his nerves. His gaze snapped upward.

“What the fuck is the clock for?” he bellowed.
