“Yes,” she answered honestly.

Kaelani swallowed and continued before the weight of it settled too deeply.

“We only kissed,” she said gently. “I never allowed it to go any further than that.”

Julian’s jaw clenched slightly, but he did not interrupt.

Julian pulled her close and buried his face against her, brushing slowly through her hair and along the curve of her neck. He needed her scent to ground him. To steady him. To soothe the restless beast stirring beneath his skin.

His arms tightened around her.

He pressed a lingering kiss against her temple before drawing back just enough to look at her.
