Lately, everyone at the company had been having a rough time.
Especially with their boss walking around with a dark expression every day, no one dared relax.
Shane said, “If Jennifer doesn’t want us to find her, then of course it’s going to be difficult.”
After everything they had done to search for Jennifer lately, Shane had come to one simple conclusion.
Once you lost something, there were some things no amount of money could ever bring back.
And to Leon, wasn’t Jennifer exactly that?
Even lost objects could be hard to find.
A living, breathing person who could deliberately run and hide was obviously much harder.
Soon, it was lunchtime.
Monique arrived carrying an insulated lunch bag.
It didn’t fit her usual tough, tomboyish image at all.
Ever since she had been released, she seemed unusually attentive to Leon.
Her explanation was simple.
After surviving something that dangerous, she had decided it was time to learn how to be more feminine.
She wanted to tone down all the rough edges she used to have.
When she first told Leon that, he had thought she was finally growing up.
After all, her old personality had made her impulsive in plenty of situations.
Leon had even joked more than once that she wasn’t wife material.
But now she had changed.
Being kidnapped had given her the perfect excuse to reinvent herself.
Leon hadn’t thought much of it before.
But after his call with Evan, especially after Evan’s warning, the way Leon looked at Monique had changed.
There was now a trace of scrutiny in his eyes.
Monique noticed immediately and felt a flicker of unease.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
Leon had never looked at her this way before.
That unreadable look in his eyes was completely unfamiliar.
At least, he had never looked at her that way.
Whenever they were together, Leon had always treated her like one of the guys.
Simple. Comfortable. Completely devoid of romantic interest.
