“What exactly did you say to Jennifer before?”
Monique froze.
Leon’s question was so blunt that it caught her completely off guard.
She looked at him. “What’s this about?”
“Every time you talked to her, she got even more upset afterward. Monique, you know what I’m getting at.”
Monique stopped what she was doing.
“You think I deliberately tried to come between you two?”
She pulled out the chair across from Leon and sat down, staring at him indignantly.
“Didn’t you?” Leon asked.
Unlike Evan, who had once tiptoed around the issue with Summer, Leon went straight to the point.
Before, he had never suspected Monique.
Now he did.
And once Leon had doubts, he wasn’t the type to dance around them.
Monique’s expression darkened.
“Leon, don’t go too far. Do I look like the kind of person who would do something like that?”
What kind of person was she?
She was clearly trying to remind him of the Monique he had always known.
With her old personality, she would’ve considered scheming behind someone’s back beneath her.
Leon gave a cold laugh.
“Then tell me. What did you say to Jennifer every time you saw her?”
Monique said nothing.
“And don’t tell me you forgot. You barely met her a handful of times.”
Yet after every single meeting, Jennifer had gotten furious.
Back when Leon hadn’t suspected anything, he had genuinely thought Jennifer was being unreasonable.
But after Evan pointed it out, the whole situation suddenly looked very different.
Monique’s chest rose and fell with anger.
“What exactly do you think I said to her?”
“Monique, there’s never going to be anything between you and me.”
“I never said I wanted there to be!”
“Then why are you suddenly trying so hard to act feminine around me?”
