Evan said nothing.
It felt as though an invisible hand had ripped his chest wide open.
The pain was so intense he could barely breathe.
Amos said, “If the news came from Aaron, it isn’t fake.
“If he released it himself, that means he already had it confirmed from multiple sources.”
Confirmed.
When information passed through Aaron’s hands, it was almost always accurate.
That was also why Amos had always believed Stella was truly gone.
If she were still alive, there was no way Aaron’s side would’ve shown no sign of it at all.
Evan’s entire body seemed to sag at Amos’s words.
The pain in his chest surged again.
“They’re gone,” he murmured. “They’re both gone.”
Stella was gone.
Felix was gone too.
The two people whose relationship had driven Evan crazy, the two people he had desperately wanted to keep apart, were both dead now.
And now?
In death, they could finally be together for good.
Evan closed his eyes in anguish.
Amos sighed.
He had never been particularly close to Felix, but one look at Evan was enough to know the news had hit him hard.
Amos quietly left.
Once only Evan and Yara remained, Yara looked at him with concern.
Evan had never fully accepted Stella’s death to begin with.
And now news had come that Felix was dead too.
Yes, Evan had probably hated Felix these past few weeks.
But that didn’t mean losing him wouldn’t hurt.
Yara drew in a breath.
“Evan.”
“I’m done,” Evan said hoarsely. “I don’t care anymore. I don’t care about any of it.”
He didn’t want to hear another word about the Wright family.
The Wright family.
How much had they cost him?
Everything.
He had lost everything because of them.
These were the people he had spent all those years protecting.
