After everything had beer tangled together for so many years, they had thought Ruby could hold out a little longer.

But from noon until now, only a few hours had passed.

Marianne opened the door and let Alex in.

Stella was already seated on the couch.

Alex stepped forward. “Miss Rowan, I’ve been calling you, but you didn’t pick up.”

Even his form of address had turned noticeably more respectful.

It seemed Ruby really could not hold on anymore.

Stella glanced at him coldly, saying nothing.

Alex continued, “Our madam would like to speak with you. About this…”

“Talk?” Stella let out a light laugh. “Sure. Tell her to come to Inkwood House herself.”

Alex froze.

The moment he heard that Ruby had to come here in person, his expression stiffened.

Ruby had been badly injured at Inkwood House today. She was lying in the hospital now, unable to move.

And the reason she was in that state…

Was because Stella had ordered it.

Now Stella was asking her to come here?

That was clearly deliberate.

Alex felt a flicker of discomfort, but kept it off his face.

Stella looked at him lazily. “What? She wants to talk, and I’m supposed to go to the hospital to see her?

“I don’t have anything to ask of her. Why would I go running to her door?”

Alex’s expression stiffened again.

Stella might not need anything from Ruby.

But Ruby needed something from her.

He knew very well that Stella was fully aware of how badly Ruby had been injured today, and yet she was still saying this on purpose.

It did not sit well with him.

Still, he kept his tone controlled. “Our madam can’t move right now.”

“So I’m supposed to deliver myself to her so she can talk?” Stella gave a soft, mocking laugh. “Does she not

know I had a massive hemorrhage this mornitig? That she delayed my treatment?”

Alex was motnentarily at a loss for words.

Alex who had navigated high society for years now found himself unable to respond.

“Miss Rowan, please don’t be upset. You really shouldn’t be getting angry right now.”

Stella shot him another cold glance.

That look made Alex’s chest tighten.

He quickly added, “You can name your terms. Our madam said whatever you want, she will agree to it.”

Stella paused.

So now they were here to negotiate.

She let out a soft laugh. “Whatever I want, she’ll give?”

Alex nodded. “Yes.”

Stella’s smile turned sharper. “Can she even afford that right now?”

“Her mansion burned down. Her exports to Eirden have been cut off. And once those clients start filing lawsuits, she’ll be wiped out.”

She laid out Ruby’s situation calmly, every word precise.

The only thing she did not mention was Andrew Miller.

Alex’s face darkened. “So you’re admitting all of this has something to do with you? The fire at Bay International. The situation in Eirden.’

Stella shook her head lightly. “No. I didn’t burn it. I’m not that capable.”

She smiled at him.

It was true. She had not set the fire herself.

But what Alex wanted was not the truth.

He wanted her to admit it.
