Jennifer came out of the kitchen with red-rimmed eyes.
The moment she saw the people sitting by the window, she froze.
Stella?
And Felix?
Just moments ago, she had been in the kitchen reading the news about them.
The reports said they were dead.
She had cried her eyes out.
She hadn’t cared much about Felix, but Stella...
That one had really hurt.
Stella had spent so long trying to get away from all those awful people, only to supposedly die before she could ever truly escape them.
How could Jennifer not be devastated?
But now...
“Stella?” Jennifer called out, her voice catching.
Felix had been saying something to Stella when he suddenly heard Jennifer’s voice.
Both he and Stella froze.
Then they turned toward the kitchen and saw Jennifer standing in the doorway, her eyes swollen and red.
When Stella realized it was Jennifer, she went still.
So did Felix.
The instant Jennifer confirmed she wasn’t seeing things, she hurried over.
“Stella, it really is you!”
She slid into the seat beside Stella and threw her arms around her.
The moment she felt Stella’s warmth, the knot in her chest finally loosened.
“You’re alive. Thank God.”
Felix frowned at the sight across from him.
For one brief moment, a dangerous chill flashed through his eyes.
He clearly didn’t like Jennifer knowing the truth.
Stella caught the look immediately and frowned at him.
Their eyes met.
A warning flashed through Stella’s gaze.
...
Five minutes later, Felix was waiting in the car.
Jennifer immediately had the kitchen prepare a few dishes for Stella.
Stella slowly ate a Harbor City-style dessert.
Her injury was on her left shoulder blade.
But anyone who had ever been seriously hurt knew that the body didn’t work in isolated pieces.
