Vivian had barely stepped out of the villa when her phone rang.
“Mrs. Redson, we may have found a lead on the girl you’ve been looking for.”
Vivian stopped short.
Her grip tightened around the phone.
“You found something?”
“Yes. It looks like the girl was taken from Warren City to Harbor City all those years ago.”
“You’re saying she’s in Harbor City?”
“Yes.”
Vivian went silent.
Harbor City. She was actually in Harbor City.
After so many years, Vivian had nearly given up hope of ever finding that child.
Now, hearing that there was finally a lead, something stirred in the part of her heart that had been numb for years.
“Since you have a lead, move faster. Confirm her identity as soon as possible.”
For years, Vivian had asked for updates almost every month.
Her people had practically turned Warren City upside down, yet they had never found a trace of the girl.
Who would’ve thought she might have been brought to Harbor City instead?
The moment Vivian remembered the dying request that person had entrusted to her, a familiar ache spread through her chest.
It hurt every time she thought about it.
And after failing to find the girl for all these years, the guilt had only grown heavier.
But now, finally, there was news.
The girl was about the same age as Monique.
Maybe that was why Vivian had always been especially fond of Monique.
The two girls were the same age, and their birthdays were only one day apart.
Vivian should have been there to take care of that girl as she grew up.
But she had never been able to find her.
She didn’t even know what kind of life the girl had lived all these years.
“Yes, ma’am.”
The call ended.
Vivian pressed a hand to her chest, her expression complicated.
After all these years, there was finally a lead.
That alone was enough to give her hope.
Her phone buzzed again.
This time, it was Leon.
Vivian’s face immediately darkened as she answered.
