“Whatever you do, don’t come to Eirden. You’re all I have left now. You’re the only one left.”
Yara was sobbing hopelessly on the other end of the phone.
She hadn’t wanted to tell Evan what had happened.
But knowing how unhinged Aaron was, she knew he would eventually make sure Evan heard the devastating news anyway.
And once Evan found out, he would definitely come to Eirden.
She wanted to stop him before that happened.
“You probably can’t stay in Seaborne anymore,” Yara said.
Aaron was still consumed by rage.
Even wiping out the Wright family hadn’t been enough to satisfy him.
He would almost certainly make another move against Seaborne.
Yara was terrified he would really kill Evan too.
That was another reason she had called.
She wanted Evan to leave Seaborne immediately.
To get as far away from there as possible.
Evan’s voice sounded distant even to himself.
“Can you leave Eirden right now?”
He asked the question almost blankly.
But the moment the words left his mouth, he knew how pointless they were.
How could Yara possibly leave Eirden now?
Before Aaron forced her to come back, he hadn’t revealed a single thing about what had happened to the Wright family.
And now, the moment she arrived, he had shown her everything without hesitation.
He was trying to break her.
He wanted to keep her right under his nose and make her suffer.
There was no way he would let her leave so easily.
Sure enough, Yara went silent.
Only her quiet, despairing sobs remained.
Evan closed his eyes.
“Is it all true?”
Even now, some tiny part of him was still clinging to hope.
He wanted to believe Aaron hadn’t really been that ruthless toward the Wright family.
After all, Amos had said there were feelings between Aaron and Yara.
And no matter how badly the Wright family had treated Yara before, they were still her family.
But Evan had been wrong.
