Evan’s temper flared.
So many people were dead.
Amos said, “What Aaron did to the Wright family this time wasn’t just because of what happened all those years ago. It was also because of Stella.”
Evan fell silent.
“Maybe Aaron never knew how to be a good brother while Stella was alive, but he was still her brother.”
Aaron was a ruthless, bloodthirsty man.
He might not have known how to be a brother, but he had always known that Stella was his sister.
There was no way her death hadn’t affected him.
And Evan thought Aaron had gone too far against the Wright family?
Aaron had lost the two people closest to him.
Amos continued,
“You think the Wright family was wiped out by Aaron. But from Aaron’s point of view, you’re the one who got Stella killed.”
Evan’s chest jolted violently.
“I wasn’t the only one responsible! Back then, he...”
“But he blames you, and you blame him.”
Wasn’t that exactly what had happened between Evan and Aaron over Stella?
Aaron had blamed Evan and taken his rage out on the entire Wright family.
And now Evan was blaming Aaron in return.
“I’m not letting this go.”
Amos had twisted his thoughts into such a mess that Evan no longer wanted to argue.
All he wanted now was to kill Aaron.
Amos replied flatly, “Then don’t let it go. You don’t need to tell me about it.”
“You...”
“But I’m not helping you. And don’t even think about taking any of my men in Seaborne with you to die.”
Evan went silent.
“That’s it.”
Amos hung up.
For someone who had always valued loyalty, his refusal this time was unusually firm.
But there was no way to be loyal about something like this.
How many more people would die if he agreed to help?
Ivy had been woken up by his raised voice during the call, and she was clearly satisfied with the way he had refused.
