She was genuinely afraid Evan wouldn’t make it out of Aaron’s territory alive.
If Evan had stayed in Seaborne, Aaron would at least have had to put in some effort to get to him.
But Mieda was different.
This was Aaron’s domain.
Evan’s voice came through the phone.
“This isn’t something you need to get involved in.”
“Evan!”
Yara’s voice sharpened.
What did he mean, she didn’t need to get involved?
It always seemed as though nothing was ever her place to ask about.
But she was a Wright too.
“Don’t fall for him,” Evan said.
Yara froze.
What did he mean?
“The Wright family and the Hogarth family are enemies now. There’s no going back.”
“Stella is dead. You don’t have to…”
“Even if she were still alive, it would be the same.”
Evan spoke through clenched teeth.
Yara’s heart jolted.
The hatred in his voice was unmistakable, the kind that sounded as though he wanted to tear everything apart.
“What exactly did you send him?”
“It was…”
Evan paused.
Then he said slowly, one word at a time,
“The truth about how their mother died.”
Yara went still.
Their mother?
The truth about the death of Aaron and Stella’s mother?
Could it be…
“The Wright family wasn’t responsible?”
Silence fell over the line.
Evan didn’t answer, but the hostility in his breathing seemed to grow heavier even through the phone.
Yara’s own breathing tightened.
The Wright family wasn’t responsible?
