Remi had been standing behind her for a long time.
Stella closed her eyes.
“Why aren’t you saying anything?”
She had known the moment Remi appeared.
Remi walked over and sat beside her, following Stella’s gaze toward the distant mountains.
Sima Mountain really was beautiful.
The endless mountain range stretched across the horizon like a painting.
Remi asked, “Have you decided what you’re going to do?”
Stella turned to look at her.
“What do you mean?”
“Whatever you decide, I’ll help you.”
Stella fell silent.
Help.
The moment she heard that word, something inside her instinctively tensed.
These days, she no longer trusted anyone who offered to help her.
It felt as though accepting someone’s help always came with a price.
Back in Harbor City, she had gone after the Wright family with everything she had.
Felix had helped her then.
Aaron had stood behind her too.
And at the time, Stella had never imagined that accepting their help would later bring so much trouble into her life.
Aaron had told her that as a member of the Hogarth family, she had responsibilities.
And Felix...
Everything that happened afterward had made it feel as though turning against him would mean betraying everything he had once done for her in Harbor City.
That was why Stella no longer dared accept anyone’s help.
When Stella remained silent, Remi looked at her and smiled.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. I don’t need help.”
That was part of it.
But she was also afraid to accept it.
As though Remi could see straight through her, she chuckled.
“You don’t need it? Or you don’t trust me? Or maybe you’re just afraid?”
Probably more of the last two.
Stella looked at her.
“Why would you help me?”
Why?
Back when Felix had helped her, Stella had never bothered asking why.
Later, she realized she had misunderstood everything.
A man like Felix...
