Chapter 1223

Being taken back to the Hogarth family, no matter how bad things got there, would still be better than falling into Evan’s hands.

Remi laid out the situation clearly.

“I know you hate that kind of life, but…”

She paused.

“But what?”

Remi thought for a moment.

“Sometimes, you have to accept your circumstances for a while.”

Not forever.

But there were times when temporarily giving in was the only sensible choice.

A person couldn’t fight fate every second of their life.

Stella laughed softly.

“Accept my circumstances for a while?”

Remi nodded.

“If you refuse my help, then yes. You need to stop fighting it for now.”

Either leave with her.

Or accept reality for the time being.

Stella fell silent.

Accept it for now?

But how long would “for now” last?

“So what are you suggesting?”

“Either come with me, or go back to the Hogarth family.”

Stella said nothing.

Run again.

Or go home.

Running probably wouldn’t work anymore.

Evan was looking for her.

Aaron was looking for her too.

Where could she possibly go?

No matter where she hid, it wouldn’t be real peace.

At best, it would be a brief chance to breathe.

And even that would feel suffocating.

Stella gave a faint smile.

“You’re right. Sometimes you really do have to stop fighting for a while.”

“If you’re going to do that, then go back to the Hogarth family,” Remi said. “As for everything between you and Evan, just don’t deal with it for now.”

Stella looked at her.

Don’t deal with it?

Could she really do that?

“Sooner or later, I’ll have to face it.”

Remi fell silent.

Sooner or later.

Stella wasn’t the kind of person who ran from responsibility.

But the consequences this time were far too serious.

How was she supposed to take responsibility for something like this?

Remi wanted to say more.

But seeing Stella like this, she suddenly didn’t know what else to say.

A long time passed.

Eventually, Stella asked Remi to leave her alone for a while.

Remi went inside to deal with the berries.

Stella remained by herself.

She had no idea how long she sat there.

Finally, she picked up her phone and dialed a number she despised, yet somehow still remembered by heart.

The call connected quickly.

A man’s deep voice came through.

“Who is this?”

“It’s me.”

The other end went completely silent.

As if even the air had been sucked out of the call.

On the other side, Evan recognized Stella’s voice instantly.

The fury around him became impossible to contain.

“So you really are alive.”

Every word came through with bone-deep coldness.

Stella closed her eyes.

“Aaron knows too, doesn’t he?”

“Of course he does. News this good deserves to be shared.”

Stella said nothing.

Just as she thought.

The moment Evan found out, Aaron would find out too.

Evan wouldn’t just search for her himself.

He would make sure Aaron joined the hunt.

When Evan wanted something, he would use every method available to get it.

“Are you coming back to Harbor City yourself,” Evan asked, “or do I have to wait for my people to find you?”

Stella’s fingers tightened around the phone.

Harbor City.

Just hearing the name made old nightmares rise inside her.

There was no way she wanted to go back there.
