Chapter 1224

Hearing Stella talk about giving up her life so casually, Evan froze for a moment.

“What did you say?”

When he spoke again, his voice was even colder.

“I don’t want to argue about who was right or wrong anymore,” Stella said. “I can’t even tell anymore.”

If they wanted to trace everything back to the beginning, then yes, Evan had started it.

He and Summer had.

And by the time Stella found that evidence, she had already lost all sense of reason. She hadn’t even thought to question whether it might be wrong.

But none of that seemed to matter anymore.

Right and wrong had become impossible to untangle.

All Stella knew was that things had reached this point.

And along with the shock of learning the truth, she had lost whatever strength she still had to keep going.

She knew exactly what it would mean if Evan found her.

He hated her.

He hated her enough to want her dead.

But more likely than killing her outright, he would make her wish she were dead.

She could do what Remi had suggested.

She could refuse to face any of this and simply return to the Hogarth family.

But Stella wasn’t that kind of person.

She wouldn’t run from what she had done.

At the same time, she couldn’t bear to let this hatred drag on forever either.

She was already exhausted from everything between her and Evan.

If they kept going like this, who knew when it would ever end?

So she would make it simple.

“I’m asking you one thing now. Do you want my life?”

Her words were blunt and fearless.

It was the last bit of strength she had left.

Evan’s voice tightened.

“Do you even know what you’re saying?”

He could hear the utter hopelessness in her voice.

And despite the rage that had been burning through him moments ago, something in his chest suddenly trembled.

“I do.”

Stella’s voice remained calm.

“I know that no matter how this started, your mother, your father, and your sister are dead because of everything that happened. At this point, right and wrong don’t matter anymore.”

The outcome had decided everything.

It meant Evan had every reason to hate her.

And it meant she deserved his hatred.

That was what mattered now.

Evan’s breathing grew heavier.

“So?”

“So if you want my life, I’ll give it to you.’

That was all she had left to give.

She couldn’t offer anything more.

Silence fell again.

After a long while, Evan let out a low laugh.

“Your life?”

His voice was chilling.

“You’ll give me your life?

“Stella Rowan, what exactly do you think your life is worth?

“So many people in the Wright family are dead, and you think one life wipes all of that away?”

Did she really think it could be that simple?

Stella closed her eyes.

“Then what do you want?”

Her life wasn’t enough?
